hole in chassis? ?

Any idea why this hole was cut? Looks like rough cut with oxy torch.

Hi there

Its difficult to see with the picture - but possibly a PTO drive shaft as the holes are all aligned.

Do you have any other pictures you can post

Replacement crossmember, with aftermarket DIY hole?

On a FFT / FFR ??  maybe a destructive method of storing antenna sections, under the vehicle through the pto holes and crossmember ??

Its on a workshop so pole box blocks access to rear of gearbox, and it has a winch fitted. My assumption is for putting extra tent section poles, but can't confirm

Possibly a re-route for an exhaust. I have seen a civy Series with the exhaust poking out through the PTO hole.

I tend to agree Paul, I feel its to rough for an Army carried out job, most likely has been done in civvy street.

Yes I agree it probably was for the exhaust sometime in the last 20 years...it is a very rough cut and not up to RAEME standards!

I would also agree with the exhaust pipe theory,as I was the same about 20 years ago for my GS,"Ill just blow ahole through that X-member and bung it straight out, with a quote about $200 

NO says I and went to a different exhaust shop, who followed the original route with a straight through "hotdog" type of muffler up between the centre members and then following the route out to the right useing the original hangers,first system lasted from 1991 until  2011 all in 2" (50mm) pipe, gave me slightly better HP and fuel ecomoney,and on long uphill grades like the gateway bridge in Brisbane :Bellowed Like a Bull  )
