Hey Carzee, that's my 178 193 there with its old hard top on.
Thanks for the photos, takes me back a bit!
Back in 98, it was my daily drive, (about 300km per week) and I put the hard top on for improved security when in the car park at work, and around town.
I got it from someone on a station outside of Kalgoorlie when I was based there, and it came up fairly well with some olive drab over the original sandglow. It did have a dodgy sunroof in it though, which did not fit in very well. Beggars cant be choosers, it was free.
I also put in the Smiths heater, to try and stop the windscreen fogging up, which it did really well in a small arc at the base of the windscreen just above the vents, but left the remaining 90% misted up.
It was still cold and a bit draughty though, and I always thought that the canvas soft top was more waterproof than the hard top. The condensation on a cold morning was not fun either.
Hot in summer as well, although I did like taking the door tops off for somewhere to put my right arm while driving.
These days, 178 193 is back to GS spec, and I've pulled out all of the non standard instruments etc, as well putting the soft top back on.
The hard top is stored in pieces in the shed, and the only non standard bits left on the 2A are the civi rear x member that I replaced the rusty original with, and the hydraulic winch that came from a wrecker, that is still useful every now and then around the place.
Nice to see the old girl in a past life,
Cheers,
Mike.
