Well the truck drove from Leppington up to Warrimoo on Saturday to overnight and then attended the Springwood Long Tan commemoration parade on Sunday.

Unfortunately they decided not to have vehicles in the parade, but the truck drew a lot of attention, mostly from Veterans reminiscing.  It certainly was the background for lots of veterans photos.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance making it possible. Particularly Chazza, Mick, Hot Rover, STDDRIVER (and Cookey)

It's a credit to your efforts Diana. Did you recreate the door markings?

Daryl
Oops
Just realised what you were asking.  No I haven't re-created the door markings, not sure what to do about them until I have some information about where when they were applied.

I'm wondering about Borneo, I remember reading a command directive referring to door markings on soft skinned vehicles ordering their removal, I can't imagine they would have applied that sort of detail  in Australia but have no information about the truck serving overseas. Mike C reliably informs me it didn't go to Vietnam.

All comments/opinions appreciated.

I would say that any markings like that would have been applied away from prying eyes. Those party poopers from the RAEME inspection team used to jump on anything like that as soon as they saw it. I would assume that the boss would have received a rocket from above in such cases. In our unit if the boss copped it so did we!

Thanks for the supportive comments,  :)I think it came up well, particularly after how it started but was a long time coming.

I just made some before and after comparisons.

Diana - You must be congratulated for such a high standard of restoration and quality of work.  :) (and making me feel guilty I am not doing as much as I can on my projects too!) :o

I always look forward to your posts

Frank

What a ripping restoration!  :D

I tried to give you a thumbs-up, or whatever it is called, but it seems to have disappeared  :-\

Excellent work there, Diana.
It was looking rather sad in the chook shed at one stage but looks new now.
Hi Mick

Yes it did look very sad, it had a leaky roof and a retired panel beater friend promised to do repairs but unfortunately he became unwell and nothing happened.  In mid 2015 after waiting over 2 years I decided to finish the paintwork up to the cab gutter when I put on primer and camo green,it seemed to stimulate him into action.

The rest of the restoration only got going after I was made redundant from work. Now the truck's on the road, I'll start looking for a new job ( the bank balance is also getting a little low).  :'(

I drove the truck from Warrimoo to the Tank Shed at Glenorie today and I think I may have a wheel bearing going, I also think the 4WD mechanism isn't disengaging, so there are still a few jobs to do.

The tray on my Mk4 was off 170-435 according to some writing underneath the tray, not far off your ARN

If you go by chassis number its only 7 vehicles away, if they're the the original trays yours would be at the beginning of the assembly line as the tray was being fitted to mine.
