coulour of 2A ,10 seater landy
« on: November 04, 2013, 01:07:45 PM »
Hi all

I am restoring a series 2a ten seater wagon . The inside of the vehicle is painted deep bronze green and where I have sanded it on the outside there appears to be painted the same .Is this normal and why is' nt it  painted olive drab?

HI,

DBG was the standard colour up till the late 60's (not sure what year) so all early 2A's where delivered in DBG, then at some point sprayed over in Olive Drab. It's unusual your's doesn't have a Olive Drab over spray. What is the top colour now that you are sanding off?

cheers
Scott

colour change year 1967.  May have never been converted OR disposed of before that year.
Check vehicle details on the website using chassis and engine number and it might tell you the year of disposal.

Hi

The vehicle is yellow now and it is believed that it was used by the civil avaition authority after it military life. I will do some more  investergating as to when it may have been disposed off. Were all wagon painted all over olive drab or the standard camoflage paint scheme ?

1967 was the change from Australian DBG (more black in the tint)to Lustreless Olive Drab, which is a full flat paint, the current semi lustre in service now is about the same colour, but is sooo much easier to maintain by comparison, as my 2a is full flat and every hand and bug splat will stain it,which has to be washed in petrol,(I now use superheap degreaser, spray on hose off to remove marks) hand prints etc.after displays)

If you are going to return to Australian DBG I would suggest you take a sample (dash panel, seat box under pad cover)which is not sun affected to a good automotive paint shop and have it digitally matched  ;)

Hope that is of help.

Hi, dash and inside vehicle should be same colour as the outside of the vehicle.

That could have been it's in service colour as the Series 3 came into service shortly after 71 and they had a black plastic dash and instrument panel, the last of the late Series 2a's, headlights in guards, soldiered on until the Perenties replaced them, then some of the specialist Workshop trucks stayed until the early 90's
