LRPV 179-502
« on: January 05, 2015, 08:07:06 PM »
Hello Everyone again

Late last year (with the help of another REMLR member), I bought LRPV Mk2 179-502 back to Perth. 502 is one of the five ex SASR LRPVs that have been sitting up at Mt Barnett for the last 24 years.

Although the photos show a 'ravaged' Land Rover, 502 is in remarkable condition with a very clean and virtually rust free bulkhead and chassis. I suspect the reason for this is that 502 sat on another vehicle (on an angle) as seen in photo. Any rainwater that fell on it would have run off immediately and not collected in puddles as would be the case if it was in a horizontal position. Fortunately, 502 has retained most of it's original SASR made 'bolt on' fittings. Unfortunately, at some stage whilst on the station, 502 was stripped of it's brushbar, Bamford winch, motor, bonnet and radiator front panel.

These photos show 502 as it sat on the station. Photos taken quite a few years ago.

On arrival in Perth late last year.

As it is today. Rear tub setup is very straight and complete.

Quite possibly the next one Geoff. I may remove the entire tub including the bolt on modifications and put it on my other late S2A LRPV, 179-520, as this one had the original tub removed and replaced by a NZ army FFR tub when civilianised many years ago. I have since removed the FFR tub and yet to find a replacement. 179-520 was a Mk2 LRPV as well so tub and mods would fit perfectly. 520 is rust free, drivable and mechanically sound. Perfect candidate for a resto :)

Wow, another familiar looking LRPV.
