Why were they fitted with HF Units, looks like a Civi one too? Was it just a better form of safe comms instead of the Military air band?

And were other land rover variants fitted with HF?

Was the underside of the wing plated to take the mount?

Juddy,

it is a civilian Codan, and fitted to the only green vehicle in the unit. Due to the nature of the unit and its role all white fleet Cruisers had the same to enable efficient comms without having to use 'green comms' which is unable to be fitted to Leased equipment, and does not need to be monitored or secured when not in use.

FFR and other vehicles with 24V and the mounting hardware can take VHF or HF depending on the activity requirements.

All 6x6 variants have the mounting plate, four bolts etc to allow an AMU to be fitted. A 5mm piece of plate has been cut to allow the HF to mount to the existing structure.

Nice.

The upper vehicle is an ERV, possibly a prototype by the shape of the aircon door on the l/h/f corner of the pod.

Lower pic is definitely an early GMV. Plain green paint and 240/415 (?) connectors on the l/h/r corner of the pod.
