Spring refurbishment for 110-850
« on: September 20, 2016, 03:31:15 PM »
I have had a S2 88" C/R stored for the past 3 years or so in a friends garage, but she has sold the house so it's coming home tomorrow
so I'm preparing to replace the springs all round, I have a new set in my shed for the front, and this set that came off a 1983 S3 109

I had marked them with a washer tied in place with some tie wire L<>R, the part numbers were clearly visible, but I still tagged them
here is the left side dismantled

both springs have now been cleaned using a cup wire brush and a 5" angle grinder with a flap sanding disc, I ended up being a nice shade
of brown my arms are killing me and so is my lower back, hopefully I will re-assemble them tomorrow, after driving the S2
home from Heddon Greta about 16 k's away, anyway cheers Dennis  :)

Moving along as you do when you have too, I went to push the old shackle bushes out but I couldn't find the tool that I made years ago, gawd knows where it is, so a short length of bright shaft was chucked and I made another

it was 1 1/2" in diameter so it needed a bit machined off, then reversed in the chuck

the finished job with it's 3 degree taper so it won't bind in the spring eye and counter bored to accept the inner sleeve

the mess

and the item

it works pushed out the old ones easy as

and in with the new

it's dark outside now and pouring rain with thunder/lightening so tomorrow re-assemble the springs and
paint them, cheers Dennis  :)
