G'day Glen,  the ABC did a really good wrap up on the news.  Looked like a good parade.
I think I saw the back of your head in the last frame.  Or did someone have a grey wig ????

Yes, we drove Daisy.
Onslow isn't really that much fun to drive any long distances especially when the weather is as "iffy" as it has been up here lately, and the Mk3 isn't registered. In actual fact it is 'surplus to requirements' and is just waiting patiently for someone to come along and want it more than we do. Patsy can't get into it and I am aging as well, so it has to go.
That almost sounds like an ad doesn't it.
Regards
Glen

The last time a parade such as this was held within the Corps was back in 1979, on the 16th March when the then Colonel-in Chief, of RACT, HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester bestowed the original Banner upon the then newly formed Corps.
These shots were taken during the demonstrations, displays and Parade that were held to mark the occasion.
In 1979 the majority of the Corps of Transport Units, School and other establishments were predominantly based in Puckapunyal in Victoria, whereas today, the School, major logistical Transport elements, and other associated elements have moved to Amberley in Queensland. The Uniforms are slightly different, as also is the equipment used and the weaponry. Quite an interesting comparison over the times.

Even the P&D are different.

Demonstrations of various branches of the Corps were presented and here we see a tank transporter with Bridge Layer on board negotiating a rather narrow bridge. (I have rather fond memories of the bridge on the old Hume Highway at Avenell where there was 3" (around 70mm or so) clearance either side.  It always played havoc with oncoming traffic as it was negotiated flat out at 12 MPH in the old Diamond Ts!)

Driving school skills were put on display over the set course;

Before someone asks, the third Tac Sign holder on the rear of the vehicle on the servicing ramp would have been implemented to carry an "L" sign when a learner driver was on board!

And then of course the parade itself;
Pretty typical weather for Pucka!
Note that the inspecting vehicle is a stock standard shorty with its extremities, hinges etc painted white and a set of reviewing platform rails attached to the canopy bow mounts (Sorry - "hood stick" mounts)

I find it quite interesting that the little "Teaspoon" is still in service at the School that late in its life!

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is about all I have on this particular subject.
Regards
Glen

actually, 112-566 still looks pretty much the same and had a bit of work dome to it to make it a review vehicle.   She lives at bandiana now.  Great photos though!

Top photos. Love this thread.
Some real history there.
I'd agree this anniverary's show hardly a dent on the '79 show.

(Richard, there's a webpage' worth of reference pix here I think. Maybe two.)

I haven't seen this Inter Pantec setup before. What could it have been used for? Could that be a fan/aircon unit at the front?

When I was attached to 101 Tpt they had 2 Inter c1500's with refer vans fitted. They were used to transport perishable rations to various units within the Sydney metro area.

Lovely pictures Glen, the little Dodge AT4s would have been getting on if they were from the original 1964 delivery.
It is interesting how much work indivduals and the Army put into both displays, and shows a wonderful sense of pride, very heartening to see these days.

I have from an apprentice school trip to central australia.  Most likely they would have been temporary for the parade.

Even if they are only for the day... they certainly did a good job on them.

The Princess Alice (in this photo), Duchess Of Gloucester is an interesting Royal.
Her father-in-law was King George V, an avid stamp collector and cousin of the last Tsar with a lot of Prussians and Germans in his family tree.
The Duchess' husband Prince Henry, Duke Of Gloucester was the Governor General Of Australia after WW2 and they lived in Canberra. He was 'Etonian' and 'Army' -not 'Navy' and made it to the rank of Field Marshall in '55. (!)
Princess Alice was the Colonel-in-Chief of RACT from 1979 thru 2004. It was after her death in 2004 that the changes to the RACT P&D establishment proceeded (RACT Pipes and Drums had been gifted its special tartan/kilts and banners by the Princess as I recall. There was likely more to it than that as well).

Hi Tommy.
I've just bought a Perentie and it's badly in need of a new paint job. Any recommendations for a panel beater that may do this.
Thank you
