Steering Whine
« on: December 22, 2013, 11:57:12 AM »
Hey there,

Took the new wagon out for its first trip as a registered civi vehicle. Drove well except for a few issues.....
Between 40 and 70 km there is a whine in the steering if you move to the left, give the steering a flick to the right again and it stops.. It is also there on deceleration and braking. At 100 on straight road no probs, no noise.

Not sure if it is in the steering or maybe something else loose that is just getting up enough vibration to be annoying. Also have considered air coming through the vents as a possible cause, closed the vents and it was ok for a bit but did come back.

My initial thoughts was it is the power steering pump... if it had one........ it is that kind of noise.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar. ???

Could it be the tyres?

FFR is manual s/box, unless you have modified it..? It shouldn't whine.

Where is the noise coming from..? Engine bay, steer column, left front....etc.

That's what I thought..... indeed it shouldn't be the steering. It just seems coincidental with the left hand down of the steering wheel.

it seems to be centre under bonnet but sometimes these things are no where near where you think they are. I might just have to work around everything and try to find what may be loose. Knowing me it is coming from the back who knows.

Just thought someone else may have heard a similar noise and have some ideas. I do not think it is tyres......
