Odmeter stopped working
« on: January 30, 2017, 09:23:21 PM »
The odometer on my 6x6 stopped working when it clicked over to 100000 kms well it nearly clicked over.

Any Idea'why it did this and a fix.

The speedo works fine.

Cheers

Deza

The cable works so it must be the small cogs for the next integer are sand or grit jammed. Could even be some swarf from a drill years ago. The next integer, the 1, hasn't turned all the way, so I think that not much will happen until you dismantle and clean it all out.

Remove it and send it to Newcastle Auto Marine instrument service you can contact them on 02 4961 1988, unless you have eyesight like an eagle, a memory like an elephant and very small steady hands I wouldn't consider dismantling any instruments, you might find some where closer, but the choice is yours cheers Dennis :)

Remove the speedo cable from the gauge and turn the drive tab backwards(or disconnect from g/box t/case and do like wise). There was a tendency for bind up on the mechanical(plastic)gearing which prevented the odo from working.By releasing pressure on these gears withiin the speedo mech generally got things working normally.Trip meters are a different issue, hence so many speedos replaced by army mechanics.Worth a try if you are up to it.Cheers

Deza if you are confident in removing it from the instrument panel yourself.

Remove it then the light globe from the back and get a household vacuum cleaner in the cable fitting and where you can. While you are there replace the globe with a LED equivalent as the bulbs get way to hot and melt the back and make them brittle.

You can try to lube it internally with a dry lube spray like used for fine locks from a hardware or a locksmith.

Bench test it with a fish tank air hose pushed in the back to a power drill. Will save you refitting it to see how you went…

Good Luck. Phil
