Replacment Perentie winch cable.
« on: February 27, 2014, 02:20:57 AM »
Hi all.
My 110 Survey HT needs a winch cable and I was wondering if one of you gents or gals could either tell me where I could get one, or what size I need and roughly how much I should be paying?
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers,  Daryl.

I'd stop in and chat with ARB in Launceston or North West Off Road at Spreyton. They should have some standard ones.  Not sure which and how much is fitted to the winch though, I will see if I can find something in the documents I have.

So, there's a modified rope.
Does anyone know what the mod was?

I'll hop over to ARB in Spreyton and have a look.

Many Thanks.
Cheers,  Daryl.

I note that the LR part# is AYG7474.   I'll have a go at getting a $PRICE$ and availability.
I actually got on to the JLRA warehouse in Melbourne, but they wouldn't tell me ..... it's a secret!   >:(

The rope is the latter & correct one.
The mod was to the winch drum, a thicker rope and removal of the chain/hook from the rope.

I'm sure a similar item would be available from Warn through ARB stores? Or one of the winch manufacturers.

Thanks 303 .... I'll give them a go.
Out of curiosity, I phoned my local LR stealer and asked for the price and availability of the original cable/hook unit, AYG7474.
Available out of Melbourne @ $872.70 ea, tax inc.   I'm sure I saw a glint of gold in that wire braid!
Found that 2.0T rated hooks are around the $50 mark and I've been quoted $200 to make the cable with silver soldered free end and to swage a high tensile thimble around the hooks eye.
Sounds like a good deal to me, but first I'll need to get the cable specs from the manufacturer, as I'm not taking any old rubbish they want to throw at me.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers,  Daryl.

As an appendix to this saga.....

I found a used cable on 'plumtree' and was told it was from a Perentie 4x4.   It was laying in the tub of a parts Perentie the seller had won on Gray's.   $150 later + freight and I find that the cable that I purchased is apparently from a 6x6.   It is AYG7475, which is described in the RPS as 11.0mm diameter and not 10mm, but with the same WLL.
Luckily for me, the wrap spiral on my winch drum measures around 11.5mm wide.
