Title: Greta
Post by: DennisM on November 11, 2019, 04:22:55 PM
Well that's 3 attendances for me at 3 weekends in a row, I need a rest LOL, last weekend it was the event @ Greta on the site of the old military base which has been sold to a developer if that's what they are, Saturday was the biggest day crowd wise, I had 4 Land Rovers on site, my wife Dianne, daughter Fiona, son Kyle to help out, the plan was to leave 2 vehicles overnight in the care of Rod & Doug and come back in the morning all 3 of us in a Land Rover so we would still have 3 on site, as Fiona had to be home to mark exam papers (school teacher) the crowds came thick n fast at times, lots of stupid comments from individuals (nice series 1 mate) & they didn't come in this colour and the list was endless from mindless ppl LOL
Quite a few vehicles of WW2 vintage all up there were 5 Series 2A's, and 4 110's, Jeeps, 2 carriers Stuart tank, Matilda tank, Tilley, M5 half tracks, Abbot self Prop/gun, DUKW, Studebakers x 2, Doug's WC Dodge, Ian Scott's BMW bike/sidecar and a few others, here are a few images 2 of mine to start with

My daughter got a guided tour of a Ferret by Phil H

and the G/Generals wife got a tour of the grounds in Doug's Dodge

Sunday I got my wife to drive us out, I gave her the day off as she was worried about our little puppy (toy poodle) being at home etc etc, anyway Rod tried to tell me that they took the replica LRPV to the club in Greta and tried to pick up some loose women LOL but I could see through his B/s
it was time to wake the 2 from their sleepover

88" GS always look 100% from any angle just ask John Gordon from AMVSC he took lots of pix of 112-501, I told him I was watching him closely LOL

If you have never seen or read anything about the Greta WW2 base, it was HUGE, it's just a bloody shame that it's gone, here are a few images showing it from a model diorama, even this doesn't do it justice, first image showing 'Camp Road' as the continuous strip with the black dot on it as the front gate, with "Chocolate City" on the rhs of image

and from another angle, showing "Silver City" on the rhs

my son had asked me if he could have a drive of the 109, so I allowed him to have a drive for approx. 3 k's

they are an impressive looking Land Rover when following you

anyway it was good to catch up with a few ppl that I hadn't seen in quite a few years Phil Hartas amongst them, I caught up with Geoff C with his Ferret and a big thanks to Craig Wade for his part in it all, cheers Dennis
ps I almost forgot, a Hercules did a fly over as well as Tiger Moths, and a Navy helicopter did a rescue
pps todays task was to check the ign/timing on the gunbuggy so far so good

Hi All,
many thanks for attending a great weekend at Greta Army Camp - site, without your attendance the spirit of the event would not have been the same. The celebration was to honour the 60,000 that trained at Greta as part of the 6th Division, 2nd AIF - battle honours such as Tobruk, Kokoda, Buna and Wewak just to name a few.

Words are not enough but THANKYOU one and all

Kindest Regards
Brett Wild - Organizer
