Title: RE: FFR battery dash flickers off and on
Post by: chickenscratchy on August 02, 2018, 12:48:09 PM
Hi REMLR,
I have just completed 3000k round trip to Perisher from Hervey Bay QLD in the FFR. The FFR performed fantastically the entire trip, through snow and ice, then dust and heat.  :D :D :D :D
The only issue I had was coming back into Qld, the indicator light on the dash for the battery would flicker on for about 10 seconds and then go off, then reappear 20 ks later. After reading some of the posts on this forum, looks like  I will have to:
1. Test battery
2. Test alternator.
3. look at wiring and/or earth lead.
So, on my next break I will do these but have a few questions.
1. What is the best battery to be used for startup? (Cost and effectiveness)
2. If I need alternator, is it the Hitachi LR170-401? And as there doesn't seem to be many factory ones out there, are the Ebay ones worthwhile?

Just some quick questions for the brain trust.

G'day chickenscratchy, That is the correct Hitachi number for the alternator. What is the voltage meter doing when the light flickers. It might be just a loose wire or the plug on the back of the alternator. Check them out and also the voltage when on and off.
