Title: 114-158 2a Panel Van
Post by: korg20000bc on May 24, 2012, 08:24:19 PM
A while back I spyed a 2a ex-army looking Land Rover on Gumtree here in Tasmania.  Here's how it appeared in the ad:

Definitely worth a look for the money they were asking.  In fact I bought it over the phone before seeing it- it was so cheap.  I thought that there's be parts galore if it turned out to be a rotter.
It looked like it may have been a GS with a tropical roof attached and there appeared to be a McNamara manual diff-lock present.  The owner told me that the Holden six had been taken out- but that was fine by me as I would be putting a 2.25 Land Rover back in it.

So off I go to have a look:

They hadn't been too gentle getting the Holden 6 out.   A bit rougher than I thought, but I think it very much in the do-able range of my ability.  And, it was here that I realised that I had a Panel Truck.  A rather rare variant of Army Land Rover.  I consider it important to preserve this vehicle.

Anyway, I got it home and did a bit more looking and poking.
Sitting proud.

Roof nice and straight:

Lots of small parts inside:

Appears to have an in-service glove-box mod:

At the moment the vehicle is acting as a bit of a parts shed while I'm working on another.
I think the panel vans look great.
I've been thinking of painting the vehicle in this colour scheme:

There is some difficulty in working out what the actual colours of this scheme is, however.

Yep, she's a beaut!
I've looked at that one a few times.  It has been at Dave Benson's place for about 2 years.  I'd love to get it but Phoenix is trying to talk his dad into buying it.

Don't let me stop anybody, chances of me getting the old man to move are less than 50% !!

At this stage it would be an error to bring home another vehicle...

I know what you mean, but I must admit I would love to have this one.  Old man is a little interested, I'm having tea with him tonight so I can work on him.  I think he is worried what the final price may be.

I am pretty sure this one was up on ebay about 6 weeks ago and didn't get a bid, so one bid could buy it, and at that price it would be a very good buy.

Korg,

found these the other day, this is real life example of the colour scheme at the start of this thread.

Cheers
