Title: COROWA 2017 - REMLR OVERNIGHT ROAD RUN
Post by: Mick on January 15, 2017, 08:36:12 PM
Hi Boys,

For those of you travelling to Corowa this year I'm thinking of organising a road run to Blighty NSW.

BLIGHTY is 120km from Corowa located between Deniliquin and Berrigan on the Riverina Hwy, It's literally a pub in the middle of no where. It has a awesome beer garden and enough area to "harbour up" for the night .

Once I get some numbers of those interested I'll organise the publican to put on a breakfast the next morning.

Initial thoughts are to depart 16:00 Thursday afternoon ,overnight Blighty for beers and a feed, breakfast 08:00 Friday depart for Corowa 09:30.

I'd appreciate feed back from all attending Corowa, it would be awesome to get together. I'm conducting a recon this week and will also seek to find a back drop for a photo shoot.

What do you reckon boys ?

Cheers,

Mick

Sounds a fine idea Mick, thank you for suggesting.

The only potential time clash being that KVE have scheduled a drive to a photo shoot and BBQ spot Fri 1030  (see http://www.corowaswim-in.org/)

I'm sure that if we want to we will be able to accommodate that as well & maybe all we have to do is depart Blighty a little earlier (before it gets too hot  :) )

 8) this idea sounds great.

So Thursday night and then return to Corowa for the armoured vehicle in the paddock to which we are invited?

Hi Ross,

Yes mate, we can work into other timings as we need to as Laurie pointed out.

Blighty Pub  would be a great back drop for a photo to so it should be fun. I'm up there this week and will recon refuelling options , bakery's , etc.

VMVC carriers have something going on at Yarrawonga so we could possibly check them out Thursday arvo ?

Stay tuned 😊👍

Hi all,

I conducted a recon today , Blighty Pub is looking forward to our visit . Plenty of parking and they're happy for us to hootchie up in the beer garden.

Menu is usual pub food and they do pizza's , etc.

Our refuelling point will be the Caltex at Berrigan which has a interesting 2nd hand store next door and probably worth a look to any discerning customer.

If all those wishing to attend could let me know I'd like to lock in numbers about a week out.  Any questions please feel free to ask.

Cheers ,

Mick

Well I reckon this bit sounds suss. Surprised no-one has commented, perhaps they don't know 24hr time?

Do we have volunteers to mind the camp back at Corowa? If I leave a trailer of stuff there that I'm hoping to sell at the swap meet, I wouldn't want it or the contents to walk off.

Hi Gunner,

I have been surprised as well .  I'm sure for those who have attractive items they don't want  tampered with we can organise a central location where blokes we know from the VMVC can keep an eye on our gear.

Good thought which we can sort easily I reckon 👍

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Boys,

Just thinking for the pub visit would you all like to order off the menu or should I ask for a BBQ dinner at around $20 per head?

Egg and bacon rolls will be available for breakfast Friday.

If those doing the trip reply ASAP it would be appreciated so I can arrange with hotel.

Cheers,

Mick

Hi All,

A few of the boys reckon Blighty was the highlight of the trip and would like to do it again next year.

My brother in law said he'd be happy to give a tour of his property and show everyone around. So we will probably head up in the AM.

The publican really looked after us , the food was delicious, well priced , the beer was cold and the egg and bacon rolls were just what the doctor ordered the next morning.

The local mechanic who worked on Paul's truck for nearly 3 hours had to have his arm twisted to take money for his efforts . Where else do you get that type of hospitality?

Thank you everyone who made the road trip and being part of a really good night.

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Mick,
Thanks for coming up with such a great idea and organising the Blighty overnighter. The slight detour involved from Ballarat to Corowa was well worth it and gave the Workshop a good long run. The hospitality and friendly atmosphere at the pub was much appreciated and not many places would be happy for you to sling a hooch between the palm trees in the beer garden. The beer was cold and the pizza could have been from a Roman trattoria it was so good. Also what a great setting in the "Long Paddock" on the Mulwala riviera!
I'll certainly be putting my hand up the same time next year and would highly recommend it to other REMLR members.
Keep me in the loop regarding an alternative camp site to Ball Park as I also felt it was overrun with non-military blow-ins.
Let next year, the year of the Land Rover be an opportunity to upstage the GPW's at Corowa and head the parade in grand style.
Regards and thanks again,
Steelo

Blighty was excellent. Some convoy uhf fun. Paul's fanbelt.Dinner etc on the lawn. Breakfast too, after sleeping with squishies in. The overnight temp was so nice and a lot less humid -and less cramped- than beside the Murray.

Hi All,

The flag Carzee refers to was the Australian Flag he found flying at the old Rural Fire Service shed at Blighty.

The flag was ripped, faded, and degrading.

Good old Carzee without a thought opened up his Emergency Aussie Flag Box and a swap was made, this carried out by a small group of REMLR members and a few words from Carzee.

I think Mick Marsh took some photo's - over to you Mick.

Another civic duty carried out by  Carzee 😊👍

Portrait view mode from the drone... looks dreamy.

One thing I did do while in a pub was to try that Great Northern. I liked it. Hard to explain. It was a beer flavoured softdrink, or homebrew sort of thing. Good for a hot day anyway.

Great northern cordial, why pay good money for nothing, when I tried it I thought it was going to be something special, to say I was a tad let down is an understatement, you might as well drink water, it's cheaper LOL cheers Dennis :)
ps Toohey's New best beer brewed, but sadly N/A down Sth or up NTh,,. :'( not that I'm big drinker just like what I like,,.
