Title: 85 TPT TP MOVE FROM MOOREBANK TO AMBERLY
Post by: Mick on January 05, 2017, 11:09:16 AM
G`Day everyone,

here is a photo from the parade marking 85 Transport troops move from Moorebank to Amberly.  Not sure of a date this happened but a nice mix of trucks displaying a history of the vehicles the unit operated.

Cheers,

Mick

Interesting photo. A RAAF base would have a variety of cargo but the main haulage task would be Avgas, perhaps? Unless the contractor delivered it. Wouldn't have a clue.

I wonder about the white bullbar too.

Ross,

The 85th Transport Troop is part of 26th Transport Squadron, which in turn is a sub-unit of 9th Force Support Battalion and is based at RAAF Amberley. The troop conducts line haul transport tasks for the ADF, but mainly just Army.

Cheers.

Yeah Ross,

Pete's right but in its Moorebank days 85 Tpt Tp was part of 18 Tpt Sqn with 88 Tpt Tp. 86 , 87 (Tipper) and 158 Tpt Tp ( tank transporters) made up 26 Tpt Sqn. A reserve Sqn in Newcastle ( maybe 16 Tpt Sqn) ? Made up 9 Tpt Regiment.

They were 3rd line tpt so really did the line haul / hwy stuff. Not the bush truckies stuff like 1, 5, and 9 trucks of the Div Tpt units. That's why they had the white bull bar , so as to be seen .

I reckon Scott needs a Diamond Reo and trailer and a Scammel with a Steco and 60 ton trailer to enhance his inter collection 😊👍

Cheers ,

Mick

remmember the brisbane line  real eastate in sydney is expensive and is easier to offload than in brisbane very few tankers on runway most are mobile  pump units attach themselves  to underground fuel lines
