As the title suggests, thing we could change something on the forum to work differently, add a different feature ?? Suggest it here!

AND SOME WAY OF NOTIFYING ME WHENEVER GUNBUGGY GEAR IS ADDED ? :)

Gunbuggy is tricky. Thanks button, I think there is a karma plugin that does that, I will check.
Financial support, mmmm this costs nothing more at this stage, so I see no need to go there.

Can't see why not.... poor lost souls :P
Thanks for the suggestion Stuart.

Thanks Pete.
Another two suggestions if I may -
1. Photo and Video Gallery.
2. Interesting Internet Links (You may have to think of a suitable heading for this one). Maybe 'MV Net Links' or something like that.
Stuart
-
All coming along well Richard.
Along with the other suggestions above... may i suggest get the colour scheme sorted to match the website or previous forum colours then it will look polished while you play with the rest ;)
-
Outlaw, I am working on the olour scheme at the moment.
Stuart, Photo and video gallery, no. We have a reasonable ammount of space, but that would soon eat it up, especially videos. Interesting links perhaps would be a good long term thread rather than a dedicated forum section.

Could we have a page showing the committee and bank account details so that members can pay joining fees and make donation if they desire to do so.
Hodgo
-
I think the best way is for me to add it to this page on REMLR itself.
http://www.remlr.com/remlr-inc.html
I'll do that when I have the time. I've just finished giving the kids tea and I have to get them to bed before I can think about anything else.

Landcruiser sub section :)

Thanks for the suggestion Stuart.
Australian Military Landcruisers is now up under Miscellaneous Vehicles

sometime in the future a "new posts" button would be fun... just pressed the unread posts, thought it was an advisory not a button... thats pretty cool!
keep up the good work but remember to take time for yourself.. we appreciate what youre doing.

Already at the top under your name Digger :)

Top left under "Hello Digger"
I'm struggling to come to terms with the new layout too. I keep hitting "Report to Moderator".
-
Phoenix...maybe change "Events" to "Upcoming Events" and add a "Trip Report" or "Past Events" area :)
I might consider posting the trip reports that used to be in the old REMLR and disappeared when I did ;)

Your profile pic is probably too big.
-
I have adjusted my profile clock to be correct, yet every post that i or anyone else puts in comes up as a completely different time. :o is the problem at my end or t'other one? 8)
Coops.
-
Works fine for me.
Check your computers clock. Better still, get V to check it for you.
-
Mines the same Mick. Correct in profile, way out on the forum posts etc. Computer clocks are correct ;)

Hmmmm....just reset the clock in profile and now it works ;D

Over to you Mr Moderator ;)
-
I want an LRPV ;D
Thanks Stuart, I'm sure Phoenix will add it soon.
Pete
-
Can we "auto add" to that list?... there is a particular type of vehicle Id quite like
If needed i can specify.. :P 8)
-
Richard, Would it be possable to put link button on the home page where home , help, search etc that takes us to the old REMLR site . and a direct link to bank details would make thing easy
Hodgo
-
I think I can do that, have to look at how, but I will look at doing that. Bank account, best place is the REMLR Inc page on remlr.com
Richard

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but when you post can the settings be modified so it takes you back to your posted message not to the thread index??
-
I think you can change that in your own settings as that Is what I prefer as well. I'll look at it.
-
Yep think you can :)
Sooo how's that new colour scheme coming along?
-
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but when you post can the settings be modified so it takes you back to your posted message not to the thread index??
Yep, in "profile" _ forum profile_ look and layout , tick box "return to topics and posting by default"
hope this helps

Hi Team,
This is a hugh effort you have put in for all of use.!
As there is a lot of Unimogs now decomition from the New Zealand Army & lots to come from the Australian Army could you please add a Unimog Post.
We have had ours for 15 years now & carried out a few repairs & done 70 000 Km's.
Have some good storyes, if olny I cuold speell corrreeclty.
Maybe a spell check in this bit would help me & others.
Thanks again, I cann't imajin how much work this has all taken.
Stephen
-
Stephen,
A spell checker would be local to your machine. You don't need it anyway. I don't think Ron is on this forum and judging from what I have seen, there aren't many people who are concerned about spelling on this forum.
-
Ron is a REMLR registrant so look out for sneaky spelling attacks ;D
-
Thanks for the encuragment. :-\
Stephen
-
Pheonix,
How about a section where vehicles that are "BER" or just wrecks can be recorded. "Wrecks for your Wrecords" as it were (kudos to Keith for that one ;) ). I have (and have seen) several old Landies/chassis that will never be back on the roads and I thought this info should be recorded.
As an example, one of my 71 workshops has a rusty chassis and I have another (cut up into sections) chassis that I plan to use to fix the workshop. Obviously the parts one will never be restored, but thought the chassis number should be documented.
Paul
-
Thanks Paul, great idea !!
Rather than a new section, I've created a sticky post within the Spotted Vehicles section - it's called The Bone Yard.

How about a thread just for known veh markings and ern,s and one for unknown markings so we can centralise the info and ask about unknown or one offs

How about a threat just for known veh markings and ern,s and one for unknown markings so we can centralise the info and ask about unknown or one offs
If you do that I'll ###### your ###### with a ######.
How's that for a threat?
Actually, a marking discussion thread may be good but to trawl through the pages that will build up?
Maybe a section would be better with the threat titles, sorry, thread titles being more descriptive?
-
smart armpit I was half asleep typing ;D
Fixed now
Thats why I suggest two threads one for known markings and one for asking questions we already have 6 or so threads on markings
-
Phoenix,
Could we Please have a section added to the misellaneous group for the 113 family, APC's Tillys etc
MC
-
I think I could manage that ;)
-
Good Man, Thank You.
MC

A specfic thread or calendar for military meets such as corowa and guyra etc with a link to their site or flyer 1 post only, if others want they can start a thread on individual meetings. Hopefully with as much notice as possible so those that have to travel can organise somthing rather than finding out about events a week or so before ( or after) ;D

Thanks diana

I'd like to suggest tapatalk be enabled for the forum. In short, tapatalk allows easy forum navigation using tablets and smart phones. I am unaware how much work there really is on the forum admin side of things (http://androidforums.com/htc-hero-sprint/52120-what-tapatalk.html (http://androidforums.com/htc-hero-sprint/52120-what-tapatalk.html)), but as a user it is a painless process compared to using the phone's browser. Users (iphone/android) would also be required to download an app ad-free version a few $$)
-
I hadn't thought about it, I'll look into it.

Is there a link to get back to remlr homepage?
-
Is there a link to get back to remlr homepage?
YEP. TOP RIGHT UNDER THE SEARCH

Cheers :D
-
A matter for the admins. Posted count is only useful for gauging, how invoved/new a person is on a forum. 'milestones'(500/1000 posts by etc) are only really celebratory if they are useful ones. (as opposed to hahahaha)
I'm sure there is a fix somewhere, as a lot of other people are proud of their post count.
Tapatalk will increase the engagement people have with remlr forums forums.
-
Didn't I put one? Oops, off to press the right buttons now!!!

:)
Hi Richard. Sorry to be a bother etc...
I'm thinking we are doing great lately on the research front.
Can we tidy house and have a thread banner/section for "REMLR Research".
I just noticed that you began a "research" thread regards Xmas Tree codes, some time ago, in the registrant only section. Now, it says something, whether its about me or the forum setup, that I only just came across it 10 mins back when looking for a suitable spot to nest the research threads...
At the least that one of yours could go straight into the current Veh Markings section?
Actually, [headslaps] can we kick this idea around -- why not simply alter that Vehicle Markings heading/name? Maybe turn it into "REMLR Research" (+subtitle "Fact finding: Service, Rarities, Markings, Codes, Documents, Manuals, etc"). There are threads in the Series 2A section and elsewhere that could move there straight off...

What has happened to the search engine on the REMLR website?
-
In arn list the 115 range is listed as unknown, its the first 3 numbers of the ferret arn mine is 115357, 115541-115544 were centurion bridge layers all other cents had 169xxx arn
-
Search engine wasn't working so I took it down until I can look at it and see why it isn't working.
115 range I will add that info to, but it was noted as unknown because we have no images of any of the pages of the ARN ledgers form that range. If anybody has any phtoos of the ARN ledgers of any section I am always happy to get them as they will be added to the database as time allows.
-
Admin, Please either:
A) turn off hidden user status to all users of this forum except Admin, or
B) turn that option on for all registered users.
Pete
-
It was never the intention for it to be available to any, working on it.
-
Ok, who has the option under Profile > Summary to hide their online status. I can't find why anybody but administrators should be able to access that option? Members of the committee, registrants, General Members.
-

What would people think about the Individual member's sheds being turned into sub forums, that way, members with multiple vehicles, like Dinty, Scott FFRman, gary cookey, Ellard and myself included, could have multipe threads one for each vehicle. It would make admiring someone's shed less confusing and easier for the member to maintain.
If it's too much work for the mods, perhaps we only do it for registrants up front and expand later if necessary.
Good or bad idea?

That could certainly work, when I have time after the current auction ;)
-
Whilst on the subject, how about a new 'REMLR Members Projects' heading as an alternative. This way, the 'sheds' (photos of vehicles in collection) and 'projects' (individual vehicle restorations) can be kept separated. If a member adds to his or her collection, he/she can add more photos to Members Sheds. If a member then starts a new project, he/she can start new restoration thread in Members Projects. This way, we can easily keep track of members projects without hunting through their 'sheds'.
Just a thought :)
-
Hi Tommy
You've been to cookey's shed then? 8)
Hes the only one I know where you'd have to hunt through his shed, most of the rest of us it would a mere glance and you could see everything.
In your plan, what would happen when the restoration is finished? Would it stay as a project thread or move to the shed, or are you thinking of the sheds only as a gallery of images of the finished project like the one on the REMLR website (not the ones here on the forum)?
Diana
-
Hello Diana
I think the Members Shed would be a good place to show viewers ones collection. Member posts up a photo and a brief summary of each vehicle. As the collection grows or shrinks, members adjust their shed details accordingly. Maybe 'before and after' restoration photos can be posted along with 'as found'.
The benefit of having a separate 'Projects' thread is the ease in which members can follow progress on one or more vehicles from different restorers. Goto 'REMLR Members Projects' and scroll down to whichever project takes your fancy. Make comments or post up photo/s that may be of interest to the restoration/restorer. Keeping projects within a single specialized thread would make sense (to me at least :)).
I really enjoy seeing other members projects/restorations. In my case, a project would mean the ongoing research into LRPV service history etc. As such, member projects may not always be a restoration. It may be an exercise in researching, hunting down and acquiring parts for a vehicle they have. For example, your Gunbuggy project began the day you bought it. You have an unusual brush bar and holes in the bodywork. We have spoken about the gun mount on the bulkhead. Today, you have posted a photo of the grinding disk damage to it's panels. These issues and other ongoing research constitutes a 'project'. Eventually, you will begin a full restoration. I would love to see all this information brought together into a single thread. I find researching a vehicle fascinating and I'm sure other do to.
Does all this make sense ;)
-
Hi Again Tommy
I think I see where you're coming from. Would the Sheds be here or the REMLR website?
On the Projects area, would that be within the types ie FFRs, Gunbuggies, workshops areas we already have or somewhere else.
Either way it will be a big job for Phoenix and The Booger to sort out.
(BTW: did you know that there is an LRPV replica coming on the market in Sydney? its very well done (at least I think so) the base was an FFT.)
-
The idea of having sup forums here for members works in progress I like the idea of, but the REMLR website will always be the home of completed vehicle's sheds, or anybody wishing to be there.
Granted I have a backlog of a couple to update and include, as with many things on the website, but I do as much as I can when I can.
-

Richard
The suggestion was directed towards the REMLR Members Sheds on the forum and not the website :). My suggestion was the addition of REMLR Members Projects as a new heading either under REMLR General or REMLR Technical. I do believe projects should have their own heading.
Members sheds on the website can be dealt with separately.
-
Artillery and other weapons.
I am conscious of including discussion on the 106mm Recoiless rifle and the associated rounds in the gunbuggy thread.
We have sections for radios and miscellaneous equipment, what about having a separate board area where the various weapons systems like the Bofors, 106RCL, Rapier and maybe even small arms can be discussed?
Diana
-
Ellard needs a his own shed (for the IPV Perentie, and the Fire engines.
-
A couple of additions to the forum there is now a documents section in research and a new member intro section I will move threads as I get around to them :)
-
Could we have a section for members to post references to people or business that they recommend I don't mean super cheap, KFC etc Like a next door neighbour, car transport, second hand parts. web sites etc. that can assist forum members. This is not a paid advertising shop.
-
Mmm, an interesting though. I'll have a look at it!
-
Just wondering if this is a good idea or not ....
I'd love to be able to go to the ARN database on the main site and where the last column for an individual vehicle says 'Archive photo', be able to click on it and have it linked to the actual photo, instead of having to go walkabout, looking, looking, looking for it.
Now I know this will take a whole heap of work, and some, but it's something we could work towards eventually. I'd even help if needed. (sheesh, I never thought I'd put that statement in a public arena).
Over to you fellas....
-
Storage is the other issue there, the Photos on the REMLR hard drive I think is about 5gb and run into the thousands of photos. Hang on, i'll check!
ok, the official stats, 11.1 GB of photos and videos. 38,753 files which are photos, videos and in some cases copies of smaller websites. So yeah, a bit to do to have it all there. where I can we are putting links or addresses to the photos when they are online already.
It is something we want as well, but, well i'm not quite sure how, given that I think I could do 6 months full time work to put all of the records online that I still have to do from ledger entries, ARN entries, vietnam records etc etc. However nobody is offering to pay me to do that, so I do what I can when I can.
Also I get more documents and information every day. the other day I was sent a copy of the trials report for the Mini Moke from the army trials for example.
-
However nobody is offering to pay me to do that, so I do what I can when I can.
Your loyalty and dedication is unquestionable.
Maybe it's time to share the load? Only you can determine that. I'm sure there'd be lots here that would help.
Just an observation from a noob and not meant to offend or get anybody's back up.
Cheers.
-
the other day I was sent a copy of the trials report for the Mini Moke from the army trials for example.
What? Do you need it scanned?
I'll scan it. Post it to me.
I've got a couple of other things to scan and send to you.
-
Sharing the work load would get things done alot quicker.
-
Mick, it's electronic and will appear online this week ;)
Always happy to receive more information, it just takes time to get online sometimes ;)
-
Hello upper echelons of REMLR,
I have in my hot little hands a 10 page report called 'AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAND ROVER ONE TEN FOR THE CIVILIAN AND MILITARY MARKET' by Ray Habgood. It appears to be a photocopy from a magazine called 'The SAE-Australasia', July/August 1986.
Has some interesting info on engine selection, chassis design and suspension selection. The photos in my copy are poor but the diagrams of the transfer, TRB intermediate shaft, 4x4 Cargo/Personnel and 6x6 Cargo (narrow cab) are okay.
Is this already in the REMLR archives?
-
Hey mark will get Richard to see what he has :)
-

However the link to reach it via the library is broken?

That's the one! I shan't fire up my scanner now :)

I'd better check the articles page for mistakes and problems if the link is broken. sorry.
I know I have all of the perentie brochures no so I need to put the rest up (and return the laminated one that I have that belongs to somebody else!)
-
Link was working this morning or did you fix it? :)
-
nope. it does seem to still work on this page http://remlr.com/articles.html
-

The link in question, and the 6 before it, don't work for me... but then again I'm using Safari :-\
-
no, you are right, there is a problem there. It is referring to the REMLR HDD instead of the website version. needs a fix. I will sort on the weekend when I have finished a couple of job applications.
-
I didn't see this article in the list on the main site:
Not sure of issue or date.

Photo caption isn't quite as prophetic as expected, laws and customer's comfort desires have changed somewhat!
-
Interestingly, Ward at the vendor advertised below the article, worked on the production/development of the 6X6 Perentie and doesn't have a good word to say about them. But all of us have different likes and dislikes, so I guess he's entitled to his opinion. ;)

To the Committee and all members,
I would like propose a new heading subject on photo's of ANZAC military parade vehicles.
Just seems right.
I’m sure some of the members would have some great photos.

Richard or Geoff,
What happened to.... the 'thanks' button?
I went to use it wrt the wiki initiative...
Pete

looking into that thanks for letting us know ;)
-
Can we give the REMLR Wiki it's own heading in the REMLR General Section as it is a new and significant direction for the organisation.
-
You mean this? http://www.remlr.com
It used to be on the masthead.
-
It still comes up just under the search field but I will give it its own heading as well :)

Thanks Geoff :)

Dear Admin ;D
I think we need to consolidate the number of folders on this forum. To me there's a lot of unnecessary duplication within the Vehicle Research, Land Rovers and Vehicle Variants sub-folders.
Also.... I think each sub-folder needs a little sticky stating its intended purpose.
I'm happy to assist in any consolidation work, should you wish to go down that path :)
Cheers,
Pete

Hello ? anyone home ?

Yep here most of the time didn't miss your last post

Add "Perentie" as a accepted word in spellchecker. ::)
-
Yep here most of the time didn't miss your last post
Well, you appear a tad lost for words. What's being done ? Is it being looked at ? Is it with Richard ?
I did a ruff count of folders.... there are 69 or so.... covering 6 marks of Land Rover, a few International trucks and some misc vehicles. There is a lot of folder duplication and the purpose of some is not necessarily intuitive.
It's time for a spring clean of the forum.
-
Been looking to see how I can give you permission to move and delete and merge threads but the permissions section is a little confusing still trying to work it out seems I can give you everything or nothing there has to be a way :)
-
It's nice to know you are trying - the feedback is appreciated.
My memory is rusty, but I think as a Moderator I could move and combine Threads ? If I do that and leave empty folders, you can close them down ... which is a job for the Administrator I think.
I think the very first step though is to agree on a folder structure ? I've had discussions about that with others - how about we draft something up for you and maybe the Committee to ponder ?
Thanks again :)
-
If you can put something together and PM me I will post it up in the committee area for them to look at :)
-
Will do. Thanks :)

Will do. Thanks :)

Ok, trying to get back on top of this.
Yes, there are too many folders really, trying to do too many things. I do have the proposal, but I've yet to pass it on to the committee and look at it closely, I will do asap.
JPEG, I will look at that right now
Did I get the thanks button back, it is there for me, but as admin most of mine looks a little different to normal users in subtle ways.

Yes, my Thanks button came back about mid January, I think.
-
My thanks button seems to be invisible. Mind you it hasn't been required of late.
Geoff.

I can see it and just clicked it and it works, funny you can't see it

Scott,
Maybe I am not supposed to be able to see it. Having spent the last few years of my working life arguing with computer controlled machines I do not plan to start arguing with the beasts now. They always win.
People wonder why we like our old vehicles which are computer free zones.
Geoff.

I thanked this post.

Mick,
We just bought a new car which is very nice to drive and very economical. It is not as much fun as the Rover however. I will know that I am getting old when it all becomes too hard but I am not there yet.
If you look under the respective bonnets however it is Star Trek meets James Watt!

I just thanked this post for thanking that post!

I think a lot of the confusion is because people keep expecting to see an actual button.
When looking at the previous post by FFRMAN, it shows "Posts: 2078". Under that it shows "THANKS 175" and below that in smaller letters shows "Thank". When I move the mouse over the "Thank", the cursor changes from the standard "I" to a hand and if I click it, adds one to the 175 count. When I originally joined the forum I was looking for an actual button as that is what some other forums have.

With the greatest respect sir I know what it looks like. It ain't there!
-
Would it have something to do with an addon like Flash for example?
-
I have checked your access settings and they appear to be the same as other members will have another look when I get back to a real computer
-
I wasn't getting too excited about it. I rarely need to thank myself.

As someone who is occasionally known to miss the bleeding obvious, can the rationale behind the THANK button be explained to me :-[

The Thanks button looks good but its lead to unintended consequences. :'( People get ideas. My nerdy son copied the Thank You Button idea for domestic application and now I have a Thank you Button for my wife. Big problems! If it doesn't go up every weekend she gets very quiet for 2 or 3 days and I have to watch what goes in my food. He's can't take it away either, she watches it like a hawk. Problems.
But he's moved on with the idea already - had a brain wave and he's currently working on a No Thanks Button for supervisors and foreman at work, bank tellers, the ladies at the Motor Registry Offices, parking police, politicians, and real estate agents.

I guess its just a way for people to show that your post was helpful in some way to them.
In my thread about my truck, if someone posts something that I find useful or helpful, I click the "Thank" thing on their post. (The thing I circled in red in my last post here in this thread.)
This only makes their Thanks count go up by one, and even if they don't notice, I know I thanked them for their contribution that helped me.
This is also why you don't have a "Thank" button on your own posts. :)
On other forums and things like Facebook, (which I refuse to use), they have a "Like" button or option which then shows exactly who "likes" the post. I prefer our system. If you have a "like" option that lists people for all to see, I want a "dislike" or "total cr*p" option. ;D
-
got it ;)
-
The system does allow a dislike button (the plugin is actually called Karma) but I figured nothing was gained by people being able to give strikes against other people, and i've seen that abused on other forums too.
Curious about GGG not being able to see the thanks button when others can, Very curious. I know yo aren't worried, but it is puzzling. Which browser are you using? Possibly a javascript issue on your browser?? not sure.

Not really a suggestion but the image of a Mk3 on the REMLR website is reversed. (http://remlr.com/Army-Inter/images/mk3-5.jpg) unless they were also made in LHD with the spare behind the passenger seat.

And whoever stencilled the tanks needs retraining 😊

Should the in service photos of International Mk3 and F2 http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=4286.0 (http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=4286.0) be somewhere other than the Mk1 and Mk2 section?
