An Australian one apparently from 10th light horse WA. Has been owned by the same guy for last 22 years he is not on any forum or clubs just liked the ferret and drove it on his property.
-
just about everything is there need a few things but it starts and drives well, no problems with the transmission which good.
Things I am looking for drivers seat back and commanders seat complete.
-
drivers position
-
Data plate
-
Hi Geoff
Congratulations, you must be pleased. Have put out some feelers for the seats.
I notice the British Army Tag number.
Is it confirmed as a Aussie unit?
Does it have the reinforcements on the sides of the engine bay and the tail lamp protectors? The rear lamps should be the same as Mk3/Mk4 Inter tail lamp combinations.

ARN is 115357 I am trying to confirm that from other sources but that is what the PO says also only 2 owners since it was sold off. The fellow was not on any forums or in any clubs so it may be a bit hard to confirm I have been looking at a site that list the numbers from the uk apparently all ferrets came with the british number from the factory something else I want to check on
-
Marcus glenn has new commanders seat complete for 86 GBP not to bad the drivers seat back I cant see any yet but its early days ;D
-
rear end with tail lights
-
There the ones for the trailers and likely also the original fitting for the Aussie Ferrets, but I've also seen them with the combos.
Have you tried Tim Vibert for the seat? I'll text you the number if you like.
-
Congratulations ;D
Looks great!

Hello Geoff,
That is the correct ARN for 86 BA 86, 115357, all Australian Ferrets did have a British number as well.
Regards
Justin.
-
Thanks Justin I hope to build up a complete history for the car
-
So it has arrived a week early ceva didn't break anything and she started first go at the depot head lights and blinkers all work have to rewire the horn and no plate light but all else is good even brakes work ;D
-
Fantastic Geoff!
Corowa next year?
cheers
Scott
-
yep even if its not regoed it should be there we are looking at transport now
-
Looks great. Can't beat Armour.
-
Well done mate, she looks great !
Do you have radio gear as well ?
Pete
-
No radio gear yet looking for the intercom first them add radios later
-
Fun times ahead Booger. If you want authentic radio gear you need Larkspur which has the intercom built into the set.
There is aroundbout way to get it using a later amplifier used by Artillery in the UK in conjunction with Larkspur.
But you still have to get the earlier headsets and junction boxes etc. which are a pain.
By far the quickest and easiest is to get the Clansman (later UK) intercom only setup.
The advantage of this is the fact the Crewie and the Driver can talk on the road.
A much safer way to travel and would maybe be a requirement for registration.
If I'm teaching you to suck eggs just tell me.
I'll send a link to what's available as soon as I find it
Greg Mac.

The site attached is Army Radio in the UK.
The Clansman one shown first is the easist way to get intercom if you don't want to worry about radios.
Is modern and fairly foolproof and you get to wear modern type headsets with a press to talk switch.

The next one is a intercom ampifier adopted for Artillery Gun Number use. Can be used with Larkspur type
radios if these come along later. Will need junction box, connecting leads and Larkspur headsets with the handheld
microphone.

Have fun. Read up on Gear changing with the semi auto gearbox.
Greg Mac.
-
Got the gear changing ok am looking at clansman radios as you say much easier to put together and a bit more modern. Some members here have offered their clansman intercom but that would be short term we are looking at this set from the UK.

not a bad price either
-
Yep, not a bad price for Intercom setup.
The later ones with the yellow face are Noise Reduction models designed for tracked armour though.
Just means you'll have to shout a bit louder over the gearbox whine.
Speaking of price. Can you PM me your purchase price. I've been looking around at a few Mk Ones here in Qld either driving or needing lots of work. So far the in house Destroyer of perfectly Good Foodstuffs around here has been acting as a handbrake.
Some Mk Twos around but I'm not a lover of Turrets.
Maybe soon. Can't beat Armour. Whhoooaarrr.
-
Thanks for the info. I'll be watching for developments.
Good luck. Hope you get it sorted. At least it's a goer.
Greg
-
Just an update with the family ferret painted and signed up as 10LR

Greg Mac.

Several years ago, there was one of these in a Variety Club Bash. There were 3 guys in it, and I remember swapping 2 bags of wood for 6 bottles of great red when I was camping in Wilpena Pound. I LOVE FERRETS!!!
-
Very Nice....
-
Looks great, nice to see a green bike as well!
-
We sized a rear bevel box at Corowa this year so it is an egine out to replace here are some pics of what we found and have done so far :D
-
Some more pics and I don't think the engine bay had been cleaned since army disposal still got 30 cal blanks ;D found a 3 inch screw driver and a large assortment of nuts and bolts
-
It was about 1 days work to get engine out after we bumbled our way through we found an online army manual that would have saved us several hours :(
-
finally out
-
Looking good and looking busy.
-
Mine is Brit with the Clansman intercom. No problems hearing each other with that kit.
If you want music or am/fm radio while you drive get an 8 to 600 ohm transformer, wire a 3.5mm plug to the 8 ohm side and a pair of wires to the 600ohm side. Then plug the 3.5 into the earphone socket on you portable radio/mp3 player/whatever and connect the two wires to the screw terminals on your IB2. That's it.
Howard
-
Thanks Howard ours is an aussie 10th light horse have clansman intercom as well but have IB3 need some AC DC when cruising around might have to get some big speakers ;D

Hi Howard
Could you use an IBHA box to do your modification? (making 3.5mm to 7 pin Clansman adapter wire.)
Diana
-
Not really Diana. The simple interface works on the basis that a twisted pair connects to the screw terminals for remote comms. So using an 8 to 600 ohm transformer gives a match between the speaker output from the fm radio and the remote pair input.
The same thing works with Larkspur gear or any system that has a connection for remote comms by twisted pair.
Howard

Thanks Howard! :)
-
Sorry to hijack the thread, but Geoff won't mind.
If we were to use your 8 to 600ohm transformer as an interface onto the IB2 to input the extension speaker from a CB radio we could have the CB receive audio through one earpiece of the headset and then simply use the CB mic if we wanted to transmit?
Would make the interface much simpler than trying to interface a CB directly into the harness.

Correct. There is a design developed be George Bell in the UK for a full interface but it is quite complex.
Howard

Well after a lot of swearing and cursing bevel box is changed over now to fix all the small things we found along the way.
this is the old bevel the previous owner had been using grease not oil in the bevels and hubs, less than a cup of grease
-
Bearing nut has very little thread left so looking for another and about half the studs for the mud guard were broken the had been welded in place hope the army didn't do that :(
-
While its all apart I have cleaned all the grease nipples and oiled the suspension pins will have to do the other 3 corners now ;D most of the nipples had been painted over the pressure release on the old bevel had been replaced with a new style grease nipple some one probably didn't know what it was checked the other bevel boxes they still had release valves but all covered in several layers of paint :( the PO had said they changed to grease because of all the oil leaks :-\
-
Putting things back together I found this critter hiding right where my hand was :o
went and put some gloves on after sending him to his maker.
That drain plug he is sitting on is 3/4 inch
-
I've really enjoyed reading your threads and looking at the photos Geoff, what a great vehicle to have. What year model would your Ferret be, I'm guessing early 60's.
Thanks for sharing it.

Made it to council display for Luna new year, no ammo boxes or floor plates or crewys seat but no one was inside so they didn't notice. we will be finishing off in next few day more pics then ;D
