Title: Stromberg Carby
Post by: trail ape on February 26, 2013, 12:51:21 PM
Hi all,

I'm chasing a carby for my SIII GS, I believe (and I have it on good authority), that it's a Stromberg CD 175.
Can anyone help please  ;D.

Many Thanks,
Shane

I probably have one on my engine out at Cookey's.  Don't know it's condition but was running when the engine was removed by the P.O.

What are they worth?

Have you tried the Ho Hars? they were parting out an SIII last time I was up there.

Thanks Diana,
I actually picked up one today from someone I know who works alot on British cars. It has an auto choke on it though. Interestingly however, he said that the SU I have is a much better Carby and if anything I should just get an adaptor plate made up. I would like to try and keep it as original as possible though, but it may not be possible by the looks of it.

I did PM a member whom I've had a very small amount of contact up here in Qld, but as yet, i haven't heard anything.

So it's off to another mate who builds racecar engines, and he reckons it's not a problem to make one, it'll just cost me a carton of xxxx gold!!

Thanks again Diana,

Shane  :)

Shane

If you wanted to keep the SU, then the adapter from the SIIa 6cyl or early SIII 6 cyl with SU should fit.  They all had the air cleaner in the same position and the SU adapter looks externally the same as the one on the Stromberg.

Hi David,

Thanks for that mate, but I've had an adaptor plate made up and kept the SU on it. I know it's in good nick and I wanted to put this little problem to bed quickly and move onto the others so I can have the vehicle ready for Anzac day.

Cheers,
Shane
