Title: Correct Carby
Post by: trail ape on February 25, 2013, 05:54:44 PM
Hi All,
I currently have an SU carby fitted to my vehicle, after removing it for a clean and service, i noticed a lot of silicone in and around the flange holes between the Carby itself, and the cast elbow that the air cleaner hose connects too. At first I thought it was strange, it wasn't the first bit of "dodgey" workmanship I had found on it. But now I want to refit the carby and realise why there was so much silicone.

My question is, what is the correct carby I should have on my Ex Army Series 3 Landy, according to the series 3 maint manual, it should be a Zenith Type 175 CD. This is a "civvy" manual, as per what you can download.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Zenith carbies where fitted to late 2A onwards 2 1/4 motors but the 2.6lt which was in Series 3 Army had a Stromberg carby, I'll try and find a photo

Hi Shane, welcome to REMLR.

Army Series 3's had a Stromgerg 175 CD carby.
The early ones had an adjustable mixture jet, while the latter (pollution) models are sealed.

Early civvy Series 3's with the 2.6 litre (6 cyl) had a 1 3/4 inch SU.

Hope that helps,

Cookey

Thanks for your replies gents, I really appreciate them.

I guess my next question is where can I get the correct carby. I have a perfectly good SU at the moment, it bolts onto the motor no problem, but it doesn't match the bolt hole config of the elbow. I don't want to "dodgey" it up again like the previous owner, and I would like to keep the vehicle as original as possible. Is it an EBay job, or should I try wreckers etc.

Cheers,
Shane
