Title: Series Land Rover Light Wrecker
Post by: Lionelgee on July 30, 2024, 09:13:31 AM
Hello All,

I have a vague memory that the Australian Army might have had a light wrecker or similar Series Land Rover-based recovery/tow vehicle. Does anyone recall what they were called and does anyone have any photographs of them?

I seem to recall that one came up for sale on eBay - years ago - with only an unusual designation on the nomenclature plate when the vehicle was being sold. As the lifting apparatus had long since been removed by previous owners to the one who was selling the vehicle.

Kind regards
Lionel

Yes they definitely had them; I remember seeing a row of six at 51 Supply Bn.

The reccy mechs told me that once loaded with another Rover, they went very slowly.

Have a look on the REMLR website Lionel, there are photos there,

Cheers Charlie

Hello Chazza,

Thank you for the tip and for the link. There is indeed a dedicated page there Land Rover Series 2 3/4 Ton RAEME Wrecker . Along with a good selection of photographs too.

Is the arrangement of the wreckers something RAEME would have document and kept records of? Especially the details of the crane and how the unit was attached to the vehicle? The next question of course - would they still have access to these records that could be available to a member of the public?

Kind regards
Lionel

Lionel,
Bandiana have a Series 2 and Series 2A, there are some differences in the crane between the different series.
Cheers Ken .
