Title: Garden Tool Mounts
Post by: mac101 on April 18, 2021, 04:02:24 AM
I removed the rusty tool mounts from the hood and found the mounting hardware also oxidized/rusted. I media blasted the mounts and applied a coat of Flood Penetrol.  I am ready to start painting the mounts.  I have also painted the mounting hardware.

I had never used this product before but I had two spots of oxidation/rust where the front bumper mount to the frame.  I treated them with Ospho followed by Penetrol then painted.  It appears that the paint and Penetrol bonded very well.

I don't have a lot of experience painting so everything is an experiment.

Welcome to the fun world of painting Mac!

Looking good there, good preparation for a good topcoat result l’d say.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your comment.

I was wondering about the time between coats of paint.  on a warm day (60-70 degrees F), can you apply more than one coat or do you wait 24 hours between coats?

Cheers,
Mac

Depends on the paint.

What does the "recoat time" on the label say?

Cheers Charlie

Well, that was a fail on my part.

The label states “read all directions first before beginning project”.

In my defense, I will say I had to put on my reading glasses and hold the can under my magnifying lamp to read the small print directions.  I’m not saying that’s a bad thing.  Reading directions before spray painting and the recoat information was right there.

Thank you Charlie
