Title: Reinforcing of Tailgate Top corners
Post by: bronzie66610 on October 19, 2012, 02:37:10 PM
Have a question, the 1966 S2A GS I have ARN 133-990 has reinforcement on top corners. I notice a pic. of I think it is 172-367 it has the same. The paint underneath hints of civilian colour (might be oxidised Bronze Green)
Is it a unit mod. or the way these were made ? Take photo when i find my camera.

The chassis on 113-990 has taken a heavy shunt in the front. We are having it sand blasted and then will set a plan to straighten it rather than do a cut and shut. Lucky son is a Panel beater.
Has anyone tried a front chassis repair from fuel tanks forward.

G'day David  :)

I had to repair/straighten the left chassis rail from approx front axle forward,(I was informed that it came down heavy from a chopper insertion exercise bent and cracked),it went to a motor repair shop that had a chassis jig, straightened out OK and re-inforcing plate welded in,that was in 1982 and 175,000+ miles ago  :)

Thanks for that Kevin. This may have been a dodgy landing to. I will persevere with it as i would like to rebuild it. I am currently looking at another vehicle to acquire that does not need the extreme work that 113 990 has challenged me. The tail gate appears to be a professional addition of the gussets in top corners. Will strip down, repair and repaint it, then put it away till tub has been done then work on chassis.

Regards
David
