Title: Possible leaking Fuel Tank

My RFSV has just developed dust sticking around the front of the drivers side fuel tank, I have crawled underneath it and it is not leaking from the seam like the ones I drove in the army so where else could it be coming from? The film if dust is towards the front and up above the seam towards the top.

Could it be coming from the tank sender unit?

Next question if I need a new tank where can I get one as I have found only one source and the price is eye watering, any help with of the above is appreciated.

I've heard of the bolts for the seat frame being replaced with over length bolts that touch the top of the tank  and eventually wear a hole.

Leaking tanks can be fixed quite easily. I have an M151 and after cleaning its tank was covered in pin holes. Using the correct two part mix fixed it.

K Man is right about an easy fix , I have had a couple done and at a pretty reasonable cost - Around $150 .

Thanks for the help everyone, the bolt touching the tank is a real possibility, I will take the tank off over Easter and have a look and have a repair kit handy.

Hi Hell-Fire,

I had a similar sounding problem on my RFSV RHS fuel tank. It leaked when ever I filled up to full, or went over rough ground/terrain.

After taking the front seat off, and removing the top cover, I found that the sender unit was loose. Took it off, cleaned the fuel tank top (neck) and the rubber seal and the flanges, etc. and then fitted firmly back on, making sure the top fixing-flange was firmly screwed in over the rubber washer & sender unit.

It has been OK ever since.

G'day John - I agree with the comments on the forum and add that with my RFSV the rubber fuel lines weren't in the most pristine condition and when the tank was full I observed a fuel weep.  Upon a closer insoection there was a pin hole in the hose from a radii crack.  When the hoses were replaced - the problem went away.  I also replaced the worm drive hose clamps with all stainless steel construction too.
