Title: REMLR closure
Post by: RobHay on May 24, 2012, 07:51:09 PM
This is an extract from a post left on AULRO, regarding the decision to cut us off from our own property.

The section in red is interesting. Richard I did suggest that we need a private section and what has been said I think needs full discussion and is something that needs to be put to the entire membership.

"if or when conditions, that i have advised mr green of, are met i will open up the remlr areas "read only" so the remlr forum can rebuild it self in it's new home but i imagine some wont want that to occur either. the decision is theirs. i live by my principles, be they right or wrong, popular or despised and am prepared to take the hits that may bring."

The obvious question is "What are the conditions?"

Yes, a private area is needed.

But there would always be someone who would "inform" for whatever reason they had, be it perceived personal importance or just misguided loyalty. ::)

That made my day. Never been stalked before.

If people want to find out private things, they will. It's the stumbling across private things I want to avoid.
A recent example:
I recently posted a photograph on one of the other fora I am on. Someone must have seen it in a google search. They then joined the forum and their first and only post was "Are you going to sell it?"
We are going to be discussing disposal of the Perenties and Mogs soon. I wouldn't want how much I think they would sell for and other information to come up on a google search.

I think it's a great idea Mick, don't get me wrong. ::) Just that you still have to be careful, unfortunately. >:(

Maybe I'm dim, but I have no idea whatsoever's going on.

What? With you stalking me?

I know only too well about taking care when posting. I have a fellow wanting to serve me a writ for libel because I posted the words "I had a similar experience."

And I suppose you think we do. I was hoping you'd explain it to me.

I too haven't got the foggiest idea what is going on and I would like to know; purely so that we can hopefully avoid an entire forum's worth of information being lost ever again.

The explanation that "REMLR is a rowdy teenager and needs its own place" means nothing to me.

When the Trans Tasman S1 forum closed down, all that useful info. was lost as well and I don't want to experience it a third time!

Cheers Charlie

I reckon I have a very rough gist of what went on and, if I'm right, It's not worthy of the airplay.
If you have a burning desire to find out the goss, I would encourage you all to communicate with the two forum administrators and get it directly from them. You will, of course, get two different stories depending on the tellers point of view. The truth will lie somewhere between.

What is done is done. We, the victims, will have to live with it. You never know, it may just be a good thing.

Another thing I would encourage you all to do would be to contact the Administrator of the other forum involved and politely request that we, the victims of this situation, would like the archives to be made read only and available even it it is only to the registrants of REMLR.

Let's end this. No more gossip.

Someone could try starting a "please can we have REMLR back" thread, where you can all plead the case for it's return  ;)

If the thread disappears, it will give a good indication of the answer  ;D

V, not a good idea. We want the REMLR threads to be opened not to embarrass (read piss off) the forum owner.
PM him privately . Plead your case.

I think it has been demonstrated that if you wish to keep something very private, then don't post it on the Internet, secret areas or not.

A very good point. One that slipped my mind not long ago.
Just waiting for the letter from the solicitor now.

What I want in the "secret" or "private" areas are "Market Place Alerts" and the discussion that usually spawns from them.
Also "REMLR Private Discussion", "Trip Reports", "Upcoming Events" as well as a myriad of other things.

Hey, Phoenix, howsabout making me moderator of that section.
On second thoughts, best not.

Wouldn't that be akin to having Digger as Mod of a Gunbuggy section?     ::)

No-one else would get a word in. ;)    :D :D :D :D :D

Just post up lots of big pictures of Gunbuggies.  That'll keep him occupied for hours.
Honestly, the fellow needs help, not encouragement.
