Title: M113 Variants
Post by: bronzie66610 on September 27, 2012, 06:04:37 PM
Here are three variants closest is the APC, then FSV (Fire Support Vehicle) and the HQ Command.
They all share same basic hull configuration but the FSV has the British  Light Tank (Scorpion) turret. The FSV was not a complete success but still a worthy battlefield unit. The Scorpion Light Tank took the recoil in its track laying system. BUT the M113  FSV took all the recoil of the 76 mm. gun in the turret and hull. Cracks developed and they were put aside.

The FSV has a crew of three.

Yes Geoff I stand corrected. The old Saladin was an ugly brute. Arnhem Phoenix 1986 Dave Pudney "puddles was his Nickname" was my crewie. in Tillys.
There is a 2 Cav. pic. I will post it now here. , I think he was a Cpl. at that time in 1986.
You might remember some of them. Do you remember Dutchy Souter, bit of a character.

In the pic. I am 4 th. from the RH Rear squatting. I think that is Dutchy 2 nd. LH Front. he came from C Sqn. 1 AR. Have a good pic of Puddles in the post on TILLYS NT EXERCISE. All he did was sleep and left me to it. just found some more, Puddles making it look like he is doing something, and a Biiig snake wanted to join in under cam net.

Nothing special, just a point a shoot digital, but I always enjoy AAVA participating in the Kapooka Open Day.  The upgraded M113 had only been driven out of the BAE Systems at Bandiana the day before.

Did you know Mal French, the one with the black beret?  He was a seargeant at the School of Armour at one point don't know the dates.

Profile looks familiar, think he was an instructor on the sand pit at Pucka.
