Title: Re: FFR rear locker/toolbox and red/white light
Post by: AGAS 5 on September 30, 2017, 03:57:41 AM
Hi,

1) both sides were used for a 24v battery system that was charged from an additional 24v alternator in the engine bay. The batteries were then connected to a power distribution box usually (but not always) mounted internally on the passenger side of the rear tub.

2) I don’t know.

3) perhaps hella?  Do a search of the forum, as it may been discussed previously.  I picked up one complete at Corowa earlier this year for $20 (bargain).

Good luck

Seatbox is what I call the locker on the floor fixed up against the cab bulkhead. It usually has 4 swingaway pegs (or perhaps the term is quick release pins) on the top surface that secure a baseplate or tray for comms equipment. I noticed that KLR automotive had a pristine steel frame. Do you also need the aluminium trim/skin and locker lid?

Note that the steel tube frame mounts were not insulated from the rear tub or bulkhead aluminium (probably for earthing circuit reasons) so the floor mounting surfaces (after 3 decades) are electrically corroding and you will see the white powdery result. The aluminium floor on my FFR has a pitted appearance in the four floor mounts - the other steelwork of the frame was also a bit rusty. I have seen this mount headache on 4 FFRs to date and am assuming it is happening on them all. Its hidden in the box from easy view. Its a little problem the GS and the RFSV do not have. Perhaps there is a box/frame in the rear of the Senior Commander wagons with a similar problem.

You could always use the red lens paint, like VHT Night Shades

Craig,

Do you have a photo of the area you are asking about in point 2 please ?

I think a couple of us have interpreted different things.

Cheers.

Ok, thanks for that. Disregard what I mentioned earlier.... I was referring to the battery compartments, which are accessed from the outside, on each side of the tub.

The compartment you have pictured was just used for storing detachment stores, radio accessories or tool kits. That frame isn’t the standard for the radios... I think I have an idea what it was for, but I’ll check that out a bit further first and get back to you.

Cheers.

Doh!  Light bulb moment !   The frame is internal to the compartment  lol

I might just sneak away for a cuppa tea now  ;D

Cheers.

If anyone else goes looking, it's off a reverse light for a truck which is Hella part no 1401 (http://db.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?flcmd=preview&flmaint=1012). I couldn't find a part number for the clear lens itself.

The page you have linked to lists the part number for the clear lens, it's Hella No 9.1401.01

The red lamp assy is a Hella 2382 (http://db.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?flcmd=preview&flmaint=1146), which is no longer in production, but you might still be able to pick up a red lens, P/N 9.2382.01

I have purchased a complete interior FFR light unit from a guy who purchased parts from the AWOL auction some time ago. His price is n reasonable, I could check if hwe has any more.

My FFR had some corrosion around the interior frame where it meets the floor. I cleaned it up and treated it with Penetrol. Not much air circulation in that compartment either.

regards

According to the big PDF file PUBR001 - 4x4 Perentie Combined V1.01.pdf (pages 720 and 721 of the file), the frame (called a "table frame"), fastens to the floor and bulkhead using AFU1350 monobolts. a whole bunch of them. Anyone have a local supplier for these? I found them on a UK site - http://www.paddockspares.com/afu1350-monobolt.html

You might find them closer to home, try this one, just found on Google;
https://www.bolt.com.au/structural-rivets-monobolt-c-1010_1410_1435_1436.html

They have branches in Qld, NSW and Vic.
