Title: TAC Plate Holders
Post by: David on February 24, 2017, 03:03:39 PM
Does anyone have any  plate holders for a RFSV as per the picture, that they don't need.  Mine has had the front and rear ones removed and I would like to fill the rivet holes by replacing them.
Please PM me if you have some matching the photo with a price.
regards
David

Were they removed because they weren't used ?

I guess as the vehicles have filtered through to other units those units may have had use for them

Mate your photo is not real clear, is it the one with the scallop out of the edge of the slides or the solid type.

Not sure what you mean by scalloped but I believe so, here is a photo off another vehicle.
Mine were not all on it at auction so I am guessing were reused.

Yep you can see the cutouts or scallops on the sides and bottoms in that photo. The earlier ones like on the series didn't have the scallops. I don't think I have any of the scalloped ones left.

If you get desperate, I can have a go at making some for you - I make the Series Type,

David here is a place to start.

I didn't check the size, but the key words in your search is  "placard metal holder" like http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sign-Holder-Transport-Truck-Holders-Changable-Metal-Placard-Holder-270x270mm/281729422294?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D2220072%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140106155344%26meid%3D62aa3c9f94414fa68bb20ed2ddfa0cad%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D281729422808

I did see some in a local catalogue ages ago that were a match. You are still going to have to paint them.

Cheers Phil

Those are too big and they don't have the dimples to keep them proud of the bodywork, as the military ones do,

Charlie our missing my point. They are a placard metal plate holder made by a civilian supplier sourced by the military to be used as a TAC Plate Holder which I have seen in a civilian catalogue on line as you described, as David's requested, that would be more easily sourced by some one searching using the civilian name new.

I already drew attention to the fact of the sizing.

I posted in David's thread thinking that he may more readily find what he is looking for by thinking outside the box and presented the link as a example no?

Was only trying to be helpful  ;)

Regard's
Phil

Well I found both responses useful, so thanks to both, (but I would find someone with a matching set they don't need even more useful)
Are there any written off newer Perenties around anyone.

I am still chasing 3 of the later type TAC plate holders, are there any perenties being wrecked that may have them, or do you know where I might find any?

try Triumph Rover spares in Adelaide, they wreck perenties regularly

Mick, how bent are they, easy to straighten?  I have emailed a few places and will PM you if I have no luck in the next week or 3.

Thanks FFRman  I've left a message with Triumph Rover spares.

I am still looking for some - Triumph Rover spares never got back to me.  I am guessing they don't post.

I'm tipping the HJ47 used the earlier type. There was someone on here making them.
If you have no luck finding some, I've got a few unused ones somewhere. I think I might be able to part with two.

Try Tim Vibert (Empire Trading) at Winton Vic.  He had a box of tac sign holders at Corowa this year.

Hi David, I might have some for you, they are not original and you might need to "Modify"  8)  the plates by cutting your own grooves if you want then?   Let me know if you do      ;)    Have to look after fellow RFSV owners!!!

Thanks for the offer, I might hang on and hope some Perentie TAC holders turn up, I don't really need them and I'm in no hurry, especially as the Pilbara regiment never used them, which I guess is why they were removed.

Thanks for the reply David - No worries - Just let me know if you want them.  I have a couple of original and a couple of "home made" but it is very hard to tell them apart.   My RFSV does not have the plates with the edges in part removed.

Cheers

Frank
