Title: M113A1 FOV as 'Monuments'
Post by: Mike C on June 18, 2016, 01:17:43 AM
Gents,

In all your travels, have any of you come across any M113A1 family of vehicles (FOV) now in position as monuments at RSLs, private museums and the like?  I have been contacted by several recipients of the M113A1 FOV seeking historical information (the last log book doesn't tell them much), but just wonder how many were distributed over the last year or so by Defence, and where they are located?

Any info gratefully received, either here or by PM, and I'll add the locations to my database.

Thanks

Mike C

It's not a recent addition (I know of it being there for at least the past 15 years), but there is the Scorpion Turreted FSV as a memorial in a side street in Wagga. It was a gift to the "People of the City of Wagga Wagga" as recognition of the long relationship with the Kapooka base.

Hi Mike,

I know a collector in Armadale NSW who has taken delivery of one. Can grab ARN if you like ?

Cheers,

Mick

Mick et al,

Thanks for the replies.

Mick, yes, the ARN would be useful - its the 'key' organisation field in my database.

I'll make some inquiries about the others direct to the organisations concerned, unless the ARNs are known?

Again, thanks.

Mike

Hi Mike,

The ARN of the Armadale M113 is 134 546.

The owner would appreciate any history you might have of its service. The log books , etc have been lost so he has little info on the vehicle.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks, Mick. I'll PM you once I've had a look at the 'what and where' for that ARN.

The log books would have told the owner very little anyway - certainly not a 'complete history'.

I'll get back to you later today.

Actually the one is Wagga is on the main road through town ( not the Main Street) corner Sturt highway and Docker st diagonally opposite the hospital.

Hi Mike,

The National RSL HQ may have a list of branches/sub branches that were successful with their tenders.

Below is an extract from their magazine..... St Mary's RSL.

Good luck :)

Thanks Gents, for the replies.

Stephen  'and the list goes on...' - do you have others on that list, please?  (I assume that 135350 is typo and is actually 134350?) Being remote from the Aussie world these days, it is difficult to keep track!  Thanks for the info.  :)

Mick, thanks for the offer, but I think I have the Pucka area covered from another source.

Stephen: thanks for the mention of the 'Face book' M113 group, but I'm not a face-booker, so will have to find out by more conventional means.
