Can the Committee please inform me and members whether this forum will adopt Rules and Policies?
As the Bush Bar thread has been locked, I'm unable to received a response to my concernes.
-
Thanks Tommy.
Locking that thread didn't have anything to do with your post in particular - sorry if it was taken that way.
I just paid a visit to the committee area and posted an action item for the creation of forum rules. I made a link to examples of rules for this type of forum, so I hope it shouldn't take too long. I reckon within a week we can have a basic set (at least) and build upon that with our collective experiences and lessons.
Cheers,
Pete

Pete, while you're at it, a forum members private section would be useful.
-
They're busy discussing that one already. At a guess, probably waiting for an outcome before updating the forum.
I'm sure you would appreciate that not all members access this forum every day - the same can be said for the committee.
Cheers,
Pete

Hi Muddy,
To answer your questions in reverse order,
1. The committee is made up of 8 members from many and varied backgrounds and experience, we are all very active in discussions on a number of issues which occurs outside of the public domain, the issue of forum rules has been fully discussed and voted on prior to being released into the public domain, the timing of the release has allowed time for due dilligence, discussion and full inclusion by all committee members before being brought to a vote.
2. Whilst we have two moderators the 8 committee members are dilligent in keeping an eye on forum activity and do communicate with the moderators regularly.
Regards
Scott

I think that time will tell us if there needs to be any addition to the number of moderators.
Yes the Rules were a Committee decision.
Are you concerned about some form of skulduggery ?
Jack
P.S. I had trouble interpreting "plenties" but guess you meant penalties

Yes there are committee members around all the time to help keep an eye on things ;)

Hi Jack and others Thanks for the replies
I as a paid up member do have a problem not fully understanding the security of the system and with only 2 moderators do the committee have the same ability to remove any unsitely posts etc
Hey mate the english subject plus spelling was never a subject enjoyed LOL

Hi Maurice, thanks for your question.
The security of the system is wrapped up within the inherent chacteristics of the program that runs the forum and its 'user selectable' settings accessed only by the Administrator (Phoenix). My experience with system administration is to minimise access to security settings, so I tend to concur with this approach.
I understand that consideration may be given to extending the Adminitrator level access to one other at an approporaite time. When the forum settled down settings wise, other important issues addressed and probably most importantly - the other person learns how to use Administrator access without crashing it !! I'm confident it will occur :)
The Committee (exluding Phoenix) does not have the ability to remove unsitely posts - that can only be done by the Administrator or Moderator. As Moderator, I am not part of the Committee - this is a lesson in impartiality we learnt on AULRO and something we thought prudent to continue with. Additional Moderators may be added at later stage (it was recently considered by the Committee). If this is done, it may or may not be a Committee member - the two are not linked.
Committee members, just like all forum members, can report unsitely posts.....
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks Pete
I have observed over the time the forum has been set up there have been neither a moderator or a committe member logged on ,lets hope they were guests ??.
There is ways around "user selectability"for one who knows.
Lets keep the site friendly ,informinative and educational for all to keep/restore military vehicles as they were designed

I think everybody has answered the questions you asked Muddy, although I think we will be setting up a sticky post in the REMLR news section just linking to information on the moderators and committee members.
The report a post button is a valuable asset as it notifies the moderators on the forum, and by email to problems.
I hope that alays any fears or concerns that yo may have.

There has been an update of the rules with regards to advertising. Then changes are
1. Advertising Guidelines – There are 4 categories of advertising that have been defined by the committee. The bounds of which are defined in each category. These also apply to private messages.
Penalty – First offence, Warning. Second offence, Temporary Ban for one month. Third offence, Permanently Banned.
- Commercial (full-time commerce) - Members who make a living from their business: May advertise in the Suppliers Shed and/or on the vendor thread in the Registrants Area.
- Non Commercial (part-time commerce) - Members who derive a secondary income from ebay, Gumtree etc sales: May advertise in the Suppliers Shed and/or on the vendor thread in the Registrants Area.
- Member Sales (hobby) - Members who make 'pocket money' from replicating/selling/wrecking parts etc. A Hobby Member sale would not have an associated public premesises and website advertising the same goods for sale: May Advertise in for sale section.
- Recommendations and Supply - Services, Products and Suppliers recommended by members: Is Allowed but not for your own shop. If for your own shop you may post a link to the thread in the vendors area.
The full list can be seen at http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=455.msg3645

Yes a lot better, there's now clarity on this issue.
One question.
Group buy, where Should it be posted.

Ahhh, good question!!! General chat is probably the best place for the most people to see it.
