Hi Everyone,
Can anybody tell me what size clutch was fitted to the army's Series 2A fleet ?
There were two sizes 9 inch and 9.5 inch
I'm particularly interested in the clutch on a 1970 built Series 2A . Any ideas on how to tell prior to removing the clutch would be really helpful.
Cheers,
Mick

Hi Mick
From memory I think they were a 9 inch with 3 fingers. Can someone else verify this?
Cheers

That's what I reckon as well, the standard part should be the 9 inch one.
But - the heavy duty part is the 9 1/2 one and someone may have put that onto the LRPV.
I don't think you can tell without splitting the engine and box, but you might be able to have a look through the inspection hole under the gear selector on top of the bell housing?

Hi Boys,
I've also heard if there is a packer behind the clutch master cylinder it's a 9 inch ?
Does that make any sense to anyone?
Cheers,
Mick

The 'packing' doesn't make sense to me, but somebody might have it a tad confused, when we used to fit Holden Red engines way back then, the Holden engine had a diaphragm type clutch fitted, we used to make a spacer that sat between the clutch withdrawl sleeve (round thing that pushes on the 3 fingers) on the input shaft to lessen the distance, as the Holden clutch was not as big as the L/R type. The driven plate should be 9" (9.5" on the later diaphragm types read Series 3) the 9" clutch pressure plate have 3 different spring ratings, they are rated by the colour of the spring, Black, Yellow and Light Green, I don't know the significance of the different colours.
The spacer you mentioned could be the fixed item which is attached to the fingers of the diaphragm clutch, whereas the std S2/2A are just 3 fingers, mate I hope that makes sense, cheers Dennis

from the parts book, the std S2/2A clutch assembly on right, diaphragm types on left with ??? that spacer you mentioned? maybe, cheers,,.

Great ,
Thanks Dennis , so safe to say a 9" clutch would be the safe bet ?
Again, thanks all those who have given their advice.
Cheers,
