Title: Perentie Michelin tyre pressure
Post by: Duncan_DY on October 17, 2015, 06:30:49 PM
I want to know what tyre pressure everyone runs in the Michelin Perentie tyres.

The plate and stencils on the Perentie state that the optimal tyre pressures are 250kpa on the front and 350kpa on the rear. However when I picked up my Perentie  from AFM with the michelins on both sets of tyres were just over 350kpa. The michelins state they can be inflated to 75psi (~520kpa) all round. Is the plate of tyre pressures still valid with the michelins, which I presume were not as delivered. What tyre pressures do others with the michelins run for highway driving?

Cheers!

I run 55psi in the front and 45 -50psi in the rear of my 6x6 depending on load. What ever that is in kpa I don't know.....

I found the stated pressures far to high and ran 35 all around unladen on my 4x4.

Actually those were steel treks...

And now I have BFGs and run 35 as well...

Interesting to read what others are doing -  FWIW I run BFGs at substantially lower pressures than you BadCo .

When heavily loaded higher pressures (particularly at the rear) can be appropriate.

It may be OK for you young blokes, but I do this both out of consideration for my back and for my passenger's comfort  :) .

IMHO high pressures are recommended so that the vehicle is always ready to be heavily loaded. If it is empty, the use of these sorts of pressures make it too damn uncomfortable.

(I also run all tyres tubeless, whatever wheels they're on, and I've had never had any rim trouble going below 20 for soft sand)

What pressures do you run dugite? That is my bitumen pressure, just so you know.

Any particular reason?

Any particular reason?

Only rarely is it loaded and if it is, rears can be increased as necessary up to mid-high 30s.

One reason I have though of to have high pressures in the fronts on a Perentie is if it has not got power steering - maneuvering would be easier.

(Guess I've got a bit soft with p/s)

The tyres are 255 85 16 MTs on D1 rims. These tyres are the largest diameter that fit in the spare recess. The slight raise in the gearing is adequately served with the turbo. The exhaust pipe needs a bit of a mod where it passes by the left hand rear wheel to give space for the tyre at full flex.

These kinds of on-road pressures have always seemed to work well for me  -  maybe a left-over from the Series days even with tubed tyres and strongarm steering  :) .
