Last week I had to replace the trip meter cable in my series 3 speedo.
Initially all worked fine but the speedo needle has started only showing half speed and is a bit bouncy but the oddometer and the tripmeter continue to read correctly.
As the oddometer and tripmeter are working fine I assume there is an internal issue rather than the cable which is relatively new.
I would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks

Hello Gary,
Are you a member of AULRO as well? There was a thread started by Phoenix about the very same issue. There are responses from JDNSW and Uncle Ho that cast some light on the topic. The thread starts at: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/23013-series-3-speedo-2.html#post342164
Cross fingers that I can avoid having any issues with the speedo as it will be needed for a road worthy check once I attempt to get it registered. When I got my Series 3 the speedo did not work and the cable had broken off as well.
I hope this reply offers some answers to your question :)
Kind Regards
Lionel

Thanks - but no longer a member of AULRO.

I was just thinking this sounds familiar!
I had a cable with a break down the line which was bouncy etc for a while and started slowing. If I recall I replaced the cable which mostly fixed the issue apart from when it started coming away from the back of the dash once in a while. A push of the cable from the engine side of the firewall usually fixed it without unding the dashboard.
