Yep. It's SPAM.
I'm sure Pete will be on to it shortly.

Somebody call an admin :) (and thankyou for giving me a call by the way!)
I think I have cleaned up all of the mess.

I'm sure you could do better with even more drivel.

Geez I wanted one of those <insert SPAM item>! Thanks for removing it before I had a chance to buy it! :o
Is it because we don't moderate new member applications?
Should we moderate new forum member applications?
Yes.
Check IP address of new members. There are a couple of sites that list dodgy IP's and email address info. If thy are spamming here you usually find they will have done it else where.
Also stops multiple accounts being used by individual people... why do people do this, whom knows.. but you will find people do it.
Cheers

Isnt the spam generated by spambots that trawl the internet looking for forums that accept automatic registration. By moderating the new member applications with a relevant free text question that must be completed you filter out the bots.
That's right Diana, and why so many forums etc now ask you to type text and numbers in a little box to prove you are human ;D Not sure if the forum software/host that Richard is using will allow that facility, but it sure beats trying to filter out all newcomers and who needs to be so highly suspicious of everyone anyway, especially seeing as no-one is misbehaving here and is unlikely to :D

I did turn on a few measures to keep the spammers at bay when I fired up the new forum. I didn't go so far as manual vetting of new members as yet though. Confirmation emails before login for the first time, and on change of email I think I set, I can't remember what else actually.
If it gets to be a problem we can put further measures in place.
