-
oh that firewall :o (images copyright Ian Williams)
-
Did you put in new footwells?
-
Yep. I believe Ian fabricated them using Dennis's technique for the creases. There was a how to thread way back.... maybe in our archive on AULRO.
Pete
-
Jobs completed updated @ 14 Jul. New fuel pump, carby, distro, coil etc.
Sorta spent my tax money in advance ;D
Cheers.
-
Oops, nearly forgot. New door tops have been converted from S3 to S2A standard and are painted. Just need to fit glass & window locks when I get a chance.
Cheers,
-
The new door tops are done. Those locks look great Scott - thank you :)
Now all I need is my shorty back !
Cheers

Out and about embedding the brake shoes....
Dammed roadworthies !! how's a fifty year old vehicle design supposed to pass a modern decelerometer test thingie !! The whole brake system is new too !! gosh dang it !!
Anyways.... I took the drums and shoes into a specialist today and hopefully having the shoes radial ground will fix things.... hmmm.....
Pete
p.s. what a beast !! lol
-
Hi there
One very smick SWB - well done and thanks for sharing
All the best
Wayne
-
Looking good Pete,
Makes all those hours of work worth it.
A very big transformation!
-
Congratulations Peter great work and a great save.
You can always bed those brakes in on the way to the Corowa!
Enjoy.
;)
-
Very nice. The more series stuff on here the better!
-
Could not agree more. Top job and great to see another series Rover back to its former glory. 👍😂
-
Thanks guys, much appreciated :)
Pete
-
All registered and ready for Corowa.
Many, many thanks to Ian, John, Ricky and Garry. My dream could not have been realised without them.
Cheers.
-
Looking forward to seeing her Pete,
What was the final fix for the brakes?
Cheers,
Mike.
-
The PBR remote booster did the trick. She pulls up very, very well... thinking about seat belts now :)
Cheers.
-
Great work Pete,
How did you overcome the brake issue? Was a booster the trick ?
I replaced the brakes on my shorty which didn't result in much improvement.
Hoping to see her at Corowa and heaps of shorties there next year.
Enjoy her Pete, great job 👍
-
Yep, mainly the booster. All to pass the decelerometer test, which is designed for more moden vehicles and not a 54 year old landy with no booster and over sized wheels....
-
Ya not meant to say oops when you drain the gearbox :o
Oh well....
-
hmm.... some would say better now than later ....
did you have any clues ?
-
Lay shaft bearing is the educated guess. It has to come out for a rebuild regardless.
The transfer case was going to be done soonish anyway.... its getting an Ashcroft kit put in. I'll get both done at the same time.
Cheers
-
Now we know what the sound in that gearbox was :( Thankfully changing bearings in those boxes is not difficult.
Garry
-
Hi Garry, only about 1500 miles on that gearbox. Not bad aye !
I think that just goes to show how fickle the design can be... 100k miles without fault or a 1000 or so then bang.
Attached is a pic of the type of bearing those rollers came out of.
Cheers.
-
Hi Pete,
Sorry to hear about the set back. What are your chances of making Corowa this year ?
At least the bright side is if you don't get missy up now she'll be a sure thing for 2018.
Good luck with the repair.
Cheers,
Mick
-
Hi Mick, I'll be there in the Defender.... at least its got aircon ;D
:D
-
While the gearbox is being done, I'll get the transfer case done as well... but with these nice new gear sets and cover plate ;D
Thanks Mr Ashcroft and Mr Rovercraft :)
Cheers.
-
Hey Pete,
As a matter of interest, what is a gear box and T case overhaul worth ?
She'll be good for another generation or two I'm sure.
Cheers,
Mick
-
I'll find out when she goes in Mick. That gear set is the Ashcroft 'high speed' kit. It's $401 delivered, but doesn't include the bearings. Add to this the cost of labour and I believe my transfer case will need a little machining as well.
Oh... I'm not sure if that new GST thingie is in place yet for below $1K imports ? If so, then add $40 to the cost of the Ashcroft kit.
A WAG at the moment is $1200-1500 for the transfer case. The gearbox will depend on what damage was done by that crap bearing....
Cheers.
-
Thanks Pete,
I'd be interested to know end cost.
She'll be like new when she's all done.
Good luck 👍
-
Santa delivered a present !
Bottom two photos are for reference.... I’m still undecided on location
-
I vote for the front guard. Great markings on the item. Whats the source of it, unit museum?
Also where and when is that bottom photo taken. The trailer is interesting to say the least.
-
Hi Pete,
For all its worth I like the rear mount and it doesn't interfere with the tool brackets .
Looking forward to seeing the finished job.
Good luck
Mick

I think you’re right Mick. There’s also a bit of weight in it and could cause a few fatigue issues with the guard.
Cheers
-
Ready for Corowa ;D
-
Lookin' good
Thanks for posting Pete :)
-
Looking forward to seeing it Pete!
-
What a great vehicle and restoration - well done - motivating.......
Frank
-
Thanks everyone. Don't look too close, there's a few things that need to be redone :-\
But she never ceases to give me a grin when I go for a drive ;D
-
It looks terrific Pete,
Looking forward to seeing her in the flesh.
Great work , well done that man.
Hope you'll be wearing a set of period correct Green's to finish her off 😂
-
Nah, not sure about the uniform.... that's what I wear most days of the year as it is 8)
Perhaps our alternate dress.... RM Williams :D
The Shorty is all packed. Can't wait to hit the road.
-
A pic from a couple weeks ago, somewhere near Tarcutta.
-
A genuine Zenith carb to go on the Shorty. I had it professionally restored by Pro Carb Tasmania.
-
Very nice job on the carby. Handy to know somewhere in Tassie does this work.
-
A nice shot from Corowa earlier this year.
-
The next project for the shorty is to make up a mount for my AN/PRC-10. The intent is to have it the same as the mounts in a gunbuggy.
It'll be a working setup once complete.
-
Looks fairly straight forward to fabricate Pete,
Looking forward to seeing the 10 installed.👍
-
Cheers Mike.
I have the metal, but not the proper fabrication tools..... should be an interesting journey lol
-
A bit of lockdown work going on with the shorty.
She came with a S3 oil filler pipe (on the left) so the correct 2A pipe and cap (both NOS) are going on.
She also came with a four bladed radiator fan, so the next job is a double pulley hub and eight bladed fan.
Cheers.
-
Here's another pic on the way to Corowa 2020.
-
Out and about south of Goulburn ...
-
Nice work cobber!
-
Corowa 2023
-
Out and about 24 Jan 25. Was fun :)

AGAS 5, ironically enough I have just found 113-974, I will have to check which engine is in it now.
