What should I be paying for a working 25/77 radio set?
And where do I find them?
-
Collectibles / Militarie / Radios anywhere. Some good product coming from Israel.
Prices vary on condition. Watch for a while to get some prices.

I have a couple of 77 sets both came from Israel one direct cost about $350 US plus postage the other from a dealer here who buys from Israel $750 AU plus postage so they worked out about the same the difference was the one from here had full CES and 4 batteries still in their wrappers ;D

$500 plus postage for a 25 set, pack frame, ces and 8 New batteries. Good deal?
-

Howard does he have an English language site :D looks like good stuff have to work out the exchange from euro to AUD.
http://www.radiosurplus.it/index.htm
On current x rate add 30% to the euro value to get AUD so not to bad
-
No, only italian. Most of it you can work out and I had no troble ordering. Obviously it is best to use simple englsh in messages.
As an aside he has some sem52s in new condition. Do not buy sem52a, just the s model. If you have a suitable amateur licence these are good little radios in which you preset on internal switches six channels. I have one so cant justify buying another... They use AA batteries so there are no problems tht way. His do not have aerials but the antenna connector is a standard BNC. Sometimes thsse are available on ebay.de.

Not sure if that is a 25 or a 77 set not much difference but the 25 still has 1 vacuum valve. :)
-
Which can be good and bad:
Good - less susceptible to damage if used without an antenna properly connected
Bad - requires short pause after pressing PTT before transmitter is fully operational; some later batteries do not have 3v connection so can only be used with 77 sets.
The valves are robust and still readily available. Adapters using common D cells are available for both radios.
