Anthony, here is an image of the overall items that make up the winch/drive/mounts etc
(http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu319/DJM110/IMG_2929_zps91a2be14.jpg)
image shown is to suit a Series 1, the winch is the same etc but the mounts will be different for a Series 2/2A 4cyl, here is another view albeit a little closer, just showing the parts that drive the winch off the crankshaft
(http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu319/DJM110/IMG_2930_zps7d7a237c.jpg)
as you can see it is a complex pile of parts. I did modify a Daihatsu diesel engine some years ago to accept the drive for a Land Rover Capstan winch.
If you are missing all those parts you will have to manufacture them from scratch, anyway hope that's been of some help, cheers Dennis
ps Capstan winches are a much sought after bit of kit, so if you see anything you would be best advised to buy it before some-one else does, me included LOL,,. :)

Exactly which bits are you missing?  (the number in the drawing would be sufficient)

With the help of Chazza and some others I made a number of kits for Series ones (very unfortunate loss making exercise for me), however Bobslandies and I still have a number of components left and some 2 1/4 litre drive parts.

We may be able to assist.

Also Chazza cast some of the alloy end brackets for the roller.  I don't know if he would be able to do it again, I could loan the originals again if needed.

(Also the drawings above are for the 1595cc and 1998cc engines so the drive flange and dog (parts 68 & 69) have the pins/holes reversed on the 2 1/4.)

Hi Greg

Do you have the rubber boots Item 53?  I bought the whole stock from Dunsfolds a few years ago.

Apart from Part 33, 71 and 72 we may have all the bits. Will let you know.

Diana

You actually have item 54.  Thats the shaft going through the alloy bearing/selector block.

I would still check the input side of the winch as I've never seen item 33 removed from one (although it is possible)

If we don't have the splined ends, I would start looking for two of the S1 clutch shafts, that will give you the little prop shaft ends.  All you need then are the brackets and the engine drive flange bits.

Hi Greg and Anthony.

Thats great about 33.

You may want to spend some time on that dog clutch assembly.  The flange with the holes (68 in the S1 drawing) needs to slide freely back and forth on the shaft (54 in the drawing)

The selector shaft (73) also needs to slide freely so that the fork (74) slides the flange (68) to engage on the drive plate (69).

Both shafts run in brass bushes (57 & 58) you often find a lot of internal wear in these.  You may need to have someone machine up new ones.

On the alloy bearing block, there is a grease nipple (80) the grease passages should be cleaned out and maybe the nipple replaced if seized.  The brass plug (79) should be unscrewed and the spring (78) checked/cleaned/or replaced and same with the selector ball bearing (77) which holds the selector shaft in the correct positions.

You may also want to build up the metal in the holes on the dog clutch flange (68) and re-drill them. These and the mating pins on the drive plate (69) are what connects the engine to the winch drive and the wear you have, may cause them to disengage under load.

Update.

99% sure that we have the two side brackets (65 & 66), the SII/SIIa prop shaft (50) the two boots (53), the drive flange (69).

80% sure I have the tab washer (72) laser cut and zinc plated (was 6 years ago I did it.)

Almost certain that we don't have the bolt  (71), we can give you the length and you can cut down a set bolt of the correct thread.

Need to go out to Marayla to get the stuff out of storage.

Will PM you rest of the info when we've got them.

Diana  :)

Hi Diana Alan sounds like a plan if you don't have the bolt then yes for sure, you can give me the bolt size and we will give it a go
Cheers Greg Egretz 150
PS WHAT DO MEAN SET BOLT

A "set bolt" or "set screw" is a bolt or screw where the thread goes all the way to the head.

A regular bolt has an unthreaded section on the shaft.

Not to be confused with a shouldered bolt.  (Which would be ideal in this situation.) Is a bolt where there is a machined raised section below the head, to precicely center the flange or washer etc and then the thread below the shoulder.)

You can see examples of shoulders on the tie rod ends for Series 1 Series 2 and Series 2a where Series 3 have the thread all the way to the end.  You shouldn't mix and match.

Hi my son was just given a arc welder, how would you build up the metal in the holes on the dog clutch flange. As we would like to re drill them.

I have seen this site before must be good gear made in Germany but the problem is, 95% of it is made for the other capstan winch  type ,not my son type.

Hi Greg

Haven't heard back from you in ages.  How did/is the winch stuff going?

We were missing the prop shaft bits, so were going to supply the components for you to make up, but I managed to talk a vendor at corowa into selling me the extra prop shaft from his capstan kit.  I'm thinking that we now have all the bits that you needed all collected together but we wanted to take templates off the engine brakets if we need to make one up in the future.

Do you still want any bits?

Diana
