Title: 48932 'Widget' Minikegs Driveway
Post by: Minikeg on July 06, 2014, 10:17:50 PM
So I bought a Perentie for a daily driver, and from the auction finish on the wednesday to picking it up on the monday I had a wide grin plastered on my face that not even an entirely depleted bank account could wipe off.

From almost being born in one, to having grown up with my mother driving a ex-army IIA as a daily (some might know it as Castrol..) land rovers have been a large part of my driving life so i figured it was time to get one of my own

Enter 48932 - one of the rougher examples also made it one of the cheaper examples..

"Id keep her running mate, but theres so little fuel in her you may not make it to the servo" awesome first words when purchasing a car..

These two got bored while I took a bunch of pictures and made themselves comfy
(http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa81/minikeg/IMAG1301.jpg)

Made it to the fuel station.. put 60l of diesel in (cost $90) to fill. Im lead to believe its a 65l tank so.. fuel gauge might be lying?

Notice I bought in the morning, and only got to put plates on at a random kfc at dusk? Yeh, thanks RTA. Got stuffed around regarding greenslips and trailer rego costs in a long story noone wants to hear.

So the truck spent most of its time in Enoggera, transferring between these units

BRISBANE LOGISTICS BN - TECH SPT PL 11 SUP BN
52 CSP SUP - 5 TPT SQN WKSP
49 RQR
25/49 RQR
6RAR
8/9 RAR

8/9 RAR's mascot is 'Stan' a merino ram - hence its sprayed on the doors.

If anyone has any links to those units.. thats my best shot of finding any 'in-service' pics :-)

I was with 25/49 for 18months before snatching the pin.
So eventful and memorable that I took no photos.
Oh, wait, I did take a couple. But that was in the back of an ASLAV with a crewies camera that I found. You don't want to see those..... 8)

Bldy Grunts in the back of the APC.   That's why we took to tying all their hands together with Zip ties.
And yeah, I was with 49 and then 25/49 for memorable times for a while.  Did drive an FFR around for a while but
no photos.  In those days weren't allowed to take piccies.  Weren't allowed mobile phones either.  Now they've got phones with cameras.

Hi Minikeg
What sort of LEDs did you use in the rear? They light up really well.
Looks like you scored a good looking truck.
Cheers
Rod

I got a 5m roll of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-5M-White-SMD-5050-150-LED-Flle-Light-Strip-12V-Car-Auto-Citipower-/251412961625?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a89615959&_uhb=1

cost less than $10 shipped from hong kong to my door

went to bunnings, got the following 5m clear tubing for $15
http://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-13mm-x-5m-reinforced-pressure-hose_p4920237

got some of the following

2x right angle $0.70ea http://www.bunnings.com.au/poly-irrigation-holman-13mm-barbed-elbow-bge-mbe13be_p3110062

1x t piece $1 http://www.bunnings.com.au/poly-irrigation-holman-13mm-barbed-tee-beige-mbt13be_p3110061

2x end pieces $0.60 http://www.bunnings.com.au/poly-irrigation-micro-holman-13mm-barbed-end-plug-mbp13be_p3110069

a thousand $1 hose clamps http://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-6-16mm-304-stainless-steel-hose-clamps_p4920191

1x $2.50 generic cable gland from any electrical part store - rip the plastic nut off the back, insert/screw into hose end, hoseclamp. Tighten the other side around cable, completes the weatherproof seal. http://www.radioparts.com.au/product/16013000/m16-16mm-chassis-cable-gland-cable-grab-claw

maybe 3-5m of 3 core electrical cable to run from the 'contained environment' out through the cable gland and to your switch panel.. $5?

'circuit diagram' as follows; Both rear cargo lights go to one wire, the interior light goes to the other, and the 3rd is a shared earth
(http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa81/minikeg/ledlights.jpg)

apply liberal use of hoseclamps and hopefully its more waterproofer than my canopy..

Nice work!  Any chance of a writeup in a word doc or PDF for the main website, some good advice there!

Haha maybe.. almost finished the centre console after weeks of building/waiting.. which has the switches for them. Apart from when I took the picture, its been very dark in my truck.. On the plus side, i found the original perentie interior light in the dash, may try and fix that as well..

Getting closer on that centre console.. So to put this in the perentie, the modifications include removing the extinguisher bracket, the rifle holder (top and bottom) and two tiny holes to mount an anderson plug behind the passenger seat. So... all entirely reversible to gs spec in about 5 minutes flat. Also, the switch console is bolted with angle brackets upside down only until my cigerette/usb port arrives, whereupon it will get a ply front face (and cb/pa installed as well)

Someone asked about canopy light leakage with lights on - almost nil. And my canopy is old/threadbare (and the local canvas fixer 'wouldnt attempt to fix it' as he reckoned it would tear just feeding it into his sewing machine)

You might be a lucky barstard and have a photo of yours in service!
This was with 3 Platoon 8/9 RAR, posted on facebook 24-4-2010.
Sorry, that is the only copy I have, no better resolution available.

well it does look like a 0 not a 9 :( and the paint schemes different..
but it does have the same bend to the bottom scuff plate/diff saver doovie.. probably a common place to bend anything though.

Thanks for keeping a look out though!!!  8)
