HI,

cyclone brand (australian made)available at most large hardware stores is current ADF and fits series tool brackets as well

the axe is the "straight" handled, polished http://www.cyclone.com.au/products/cyclone37/2kg-polished-axe-timber-handle

the shovel is 4x4 camping shovel, wood hanle with steel "D" handle at top http://www.cyclone.com.au/products/cyclone-3/4wd-camping-shovel-short-timber-shaft-with-galvanised-dee-handle

wooden handled pick No5  ie 5lb (some people get the pick/maddock as more versitile) http://www.cyclone.com.au/products/cyclone92/225kg-road-pick-short-timber-handle

hope this helps

Regards
Scott

In addition to what Scott detailed, I just went to Bunnings and got replacement axe and pick handles that were an exact replica of the ex-army set I had:

Axe handle:  "Superslash by Krugers, 01-002, 700mm AXE"   $18.55   (also get the nearby "Supercraft Axe Wedge" @ $2.28)

Pick handle: "Superslash by Krugers, 01-030, PICK/MATTOCK"  $22.99

For the shovel I use a cyclone.

Cheers,

Pete

As recommended by FFRMan I went to Bunnings today to fill my shopping list.

2kg Cyclone Axe  = no problem.

4WD Camping Cyclone Shovel = no problem.
These were so good and priced well I bought two.

2.25kg Road Pick = no problem.
Slight problem with the handle though.
It comes separate so I had to buy a Chinese one and the
colour was so light I thought it was pine.
Have substituted it with my dark coloured Australian Mattock handle
from home.  I'm happy now.

Things to look for.  Inspect the axes to get the best looking handle.
Ensure the shovel has the handle straight.  One of mine is off-centre and
hits on the bonnet when tightened down on a Perente.
No problem on another vehicle though.
Go shopping to get a good pick handle of dark hardwood if need be.

Remaining job for now will be to remove brand stickers etc, a light sanding to take the newness off and maybe
matt varnish or paint job.  Anything to make them look less brand new and nickable to idle hands.

Happy shopping.  Greg Mac.

I painted mine "camouflage green" today. Hopefully they'll be dry tomorrow.

Here's the axe & pick handle.  One coat of linseed oil.  Axe head matt black.

A linseed oil and gun oil.  the smell of an engineer after a field exercise and having to clean every tool in the kit.

What are the chances of getting the original equipment?
Does anybody know why they don't sell them with the tools?

That means Sunday shopping coming up.....whoooohoooo!

Just get out 4wding and get stuck in using them!  :D

My RFSV has cyclone tools on it. The shovel still has the sticker on it to prove it.

Shopping was not as easy as I thought ;D ;D ;D my wife makes it look so easy :o :o could only get the AXE and immediately fitted it. The nice thing about it was the wooden handle is nice and dark so I am not so paranoid anymore :-[ hope to have the rest before we go on our first camping trip.

This is the correct Pick Axe head.  Buy a handle separately.

Don't buy a mattock unless you really need one.

http://www.bunnings.com.au/cyclone-pick-head-only-2-25kg_p3361118

or this one.

Most questions are already answered.

There was no handle listed on the Bunnings site, though I suppose any old handle would work.

The mattock might work better trying to dig yourself out?

a mattock is more practical

a pick is for mining

What is a Mattock, is it a brand or style? although I may have given the impression that I want a complete vehicle I will be using the tools at some stage and maybe even more than once  ;D ;D
Please I have to learn the difference, a few of the times I do struggle to understand what you are saying.

Look at the links and there pictures and description.

Its to do with the shapes of the head, the pick is as someone said for mining and breaking up solid ground. The mattock I think has a flat broader head, more space like.

I have never used a matttock before but looking at it, seems like it would be more useful for digging out of bogs and sand.

Mine does have the box on the drivers side.  It doesnt have any makers plate anywhere i can see.  It also has the Jerry can holder where the spare tyre is normally underneath

Thanks Boxy,  mine is an un-modified version with the inboard spare tyres and one underneath.
Can you post a picture of the storage box under the "Perentie-RFSV" Posting started
by Sixtie as a reference.
Then I'll know what it looks like.  thanks
Greg Mac.

How do you confuse an ex-military land rover owner?

Offer him a spade and a mattock, then tell him to take his pick.

Paraphrased from an irish joke, but thought it was relevant.

Won't happen. All good Perentie owners have their pick on the bonnet.

Wish i had a mattock on mine today.  I was at royal NP for a meeting today and someone had flicked a cigarette butt out the window and there was a small fire i started to knock it down with my GS Shovel until some other workers turned up with a Cat 9 to put it out
