Title: Hi all! :)
Post by: lmurko on April 15, 2014, 11:28:24 PM
hey
my name is lachlan, and im the proud owner of a perentie, shes a survey model from 89 and i was lucky enough to get a model with locks pre-installed
ive been doing plenty of cleaning up lately, and need to start saving to get myself a turbo and a few other modifications going.

my grille crumbled when i took it off to clean it. im waiting to see my brother to get some 3mm aluminium to make myself a new one, so if anyone has any ideas, tips or recommendations for that it would be great.

cheers everyone,
lachlan

I was looking at buying a new grill juddy, but i want to make an aluminium one, and do a custom design.
Cheers wayne.

Nato you might be the only one without a suspended license still. Darn speed limits lol

G'Day Lachlan.
Welcome to REMLR and the Perentie club.
Driving a Survey is a good way of preserving your licence, when you get it back. Just take care when changing lanes due to their atrocious rear quarter vision.
BDave.

Thanks dave,
I think that if i get a speeding ticket in this beast ill frame it lol
And ive noticed that issue with the lane changes. Im considering getting some gullwings installed. But 75mm blindspot mirrors do the job fine.

Thanks again for the welcomes everyone!

I find 80km/hr speed limit is difficult, it is right on the 3rd to 4th gear change if you go into 4th it will run up to 90kms before you know it - bang speeding fine!

enjoy

cheers

You don't tell a 4BD1 how fast to go, it tells you. Once that clutch is up, she's away!

Hi turbo wont change the gear ratios so you'll still change from 3rd to 4th at 80ks, top speed wont be much different, you might get a quicker acceleration but the 4BD1 doesn't really need a turbo, unless you need torque and pulling heavy loads

A turbo won't change the gear ratios, but it makes it so you have a little more power so can stay in higher gears at 80KPH at lower revs and not have to change back to third.  (depending on the type of turbo selection of course).

The down side is that the factory 4BD1-T engines are different to most 4BD1 in the Perentie 110, because the 4BD1 don't have oil squirters under the pistons.  So while it's relatively easy to bolt on the turbo manifold and a turbo, there is increased risk of piston meltdown.  Even Dinty experienced meltdown on a non turbo 4BD1.
