I think it is a prototype.

The 101FC now owned by 101Ron had been rebuilt by BAe, and when owned by a previous owner in the late 90's (purchased as a direct release from Defence) also had it's matching trailer built by BAe. I seem to recall it looking very similar to these , but I will have to dig through some old photos to see if I have recorded it.

The mid-90's rebuild/refurb of the 101 would have occurred after the retirement of the Rapier system, and/or the introduction of the 6x6 Air Defence Perentie, so perhaps the trailer was designed as a re-purposing of the 101?

Ta. Know about that one. It has an interesting tow assembly detail.

The hitch assembly is mounted below the A frame. On mine, the hitch assembly is mounted above.

I would love to get my hands on a Rapier Resupply Trailer. I have a piece of one. This is not one of those.

The 101's were disposed of before this trailer was built. I don't think they are related. I did think it may have been used behind a 6x6. Similar track width. Or maybe a Unimog?

Is the Rapier Supply trailer the same as the UK ones?

My understanding is there were a few minor differences.

Looks like an old '1 tonne' trailer with a different (prototype?) body.

Made here or over there?

Yes. It is.
However, it doesn't have as many leaves in the springs and has shock absorbers fitted.
There are a few mods on the hitch which suggests they were tinkering with stopping the lunette from rotating.

They were built in the UK and supplied with the 101's as a weapons package.

Remember that the rapier continued to be used by the 6x6 air defence land rovers after the 101's left service.  made for one of them

Tac plate holders are odd, one in front of the other?

Maybe made to be used with the system that replaced the rapier RB70 I think?  or some such.

There are a few things that are very odd.
The tub is undamaged. Not a scratch. I think the trailer was unused.
The TAC holders (4 of them) on the back of the trailer and on the guards.
A bit of what looks like rather agricultural mods at the hitch.
I still believe the prototype idea. It'd look good behind the 6x6. Still would like a Haulmark tandem.

The hitch.

Notice the cut out and the bit welded on the nut to stop the lunette from twisting.

The wheels.

The writing "FOR <illegible> USE ONLY".

Pete

Yeah that would be my call as well.

Also they are the old type steeltreks with the chucky letters, probably the original tyres from the trailer - about the correct age, ie early mid 90's

cheers

Looking at them the rims could be SIII, AYG8138...? Def 'TRL USE ONLY'

And the brake setup is the 'Dimwood' modified setup.

You're lookin' at it bud.
Yep, all the braking bits hat been removed including back plates and pipes. All that remains is the hose to the axle and the master cylinder which is stuffed. The good news is it's on a 1 ton cargo chassis. Lots of them about.

H'gay buddy,

I've just joined this forum so apologies for the late reply.

If you're still chasing info, I know a little about these units as I own one.

There were three made in total, two with camo and one in plain drab, they were sourced from Bandiana and are definitely prototypes, that's the reason why they are spotless.  I know this because I spoke with the guys who made it in the trailer dept personally.  Apparently they were made for a specific purpose but were rejected.

They have the same platform as the 1 tonne units but as you know have shocks and ride very smoothly.

Curious? did you have it with the original pintle and if so was it marked with a yellow X?   I think one of your blackout lamps were damaged, is this correct?

I guess they are a collectors item, seeing that there are only three of this kind in existence..

I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Dingo

Hey, Dingo.
Did you get yours recently or have you had it a while?
If you've had it a while there are at least four.
Mine
(http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2001.0;attach=20838;image)

And this one last known to be in Melbourne's SE burbs
(http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2001.0;attach=20840;image)

And this one last known to be in NSW or QLD
(http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2001.0;attach=20842;image)

Do you have a photo of yours to add to the thread? Do you know the ARN?

I have the chance to buy one of these too. Olive drab in colour. Private sale. So they're too big for a s2a land rover? I haven't seen it in the flesh yet. What are they worth?

I reckon around $1500.
The 1 ton cargo trailers get around that and they have a stronger tub made from a thicker aluminium than the thin sheet steel the BAE systems ones were made from.
As Dingo says, they weren't a success. They aren't that popular on the civy market either. They're too wide and high. About the only people these are of interest to are 6x6 Perentie owners and 101 owners.
Sad, really. The 1 ton cargo trailer is well built. The BAE Systems trailer a little less so.

I've finally had the time to get to the trailer and take some photos.
You'll notice the hitch is removed, mainly as a security measure -I will eventually refit one below the A-frame, mind you it was roughly put together anyway.
A basic canvas cover was included as well as brake master cylinder, without bundy tube.

2Short, yeah Mick's estimation is about spot on but obviously that depends on condition etc.  In terms of its size, I tow it with a GU patrol and it sits just inside.
good luck.(http://)
