Just saying hello to everyone..I was registered on the old forum, but only revisited recently to find a new remlr site !!..excellent
anyway I am ex Infantry Regt Sig and RAAC M113 Crewman Radio ( ARES) from 1984 to 1997, did Kangaroo 86 ( Sig )Boundary Hill Mine in a series 3 FFR in Sig Platoon ,Kangaroo 89 Weipa - Rifle Company, Kangaroo 95 at Weipa in a 110 FFR ( Radio SGT)......big differences in the radio equipment as we had recently replaced the older 160, 524 and F1 sets etc with the new ( then ) VHF and HF Raven...during K95 we also had the rifle companies trialling the Toyota Landcruiser Troop Carriers ( leased..painted white...green cargo parachutes were used to try and conceal them as they were not to be painted)....we called them the white elephants.
When they arrived we fitted them with trial RACAL VHF hand helds which had a cradle mounted so they could be mounted in the Cruiser and charged by same. ....Vehicle mounted GPS units were also trialled but proved to be innaccurate..so the old map and compass were still number one.
Anyway I have a 1978 Series 3 FFR.....
.ARN 29-957
Chassis- 94324299C
Engine - 94125135C
Body - 6006-39487
last known unit 173 General Support Squadron ( AAAVN)....L/R in blue on windscreen which i think means it was in the loan register pool ..so may have been to any number of units.
It is in the ODF cam pattern...I have put blackout lights back on it, antenna mounts with AMUs...AN/GRC 160 set with 25 set and MT 1029, PDP, mock up F1
Inbound fron Israel is a 524 set ( gutted for display only) and from the USA a MT 1029 for the 524 set...that will complete the resto..i drive it often
I have extra headsets, , handsets , pork chops . some antenna bits for the older gear if anyone is short
thanks

will post updated pics when I get the RT 524 setup installed...still need a couple of power and rf cables.....F1 vehicle mount would be nice too..thanks

Stevo78ffr, like yourself was a member of the old site (I've changed login - used to be Tight Five).
Great new site, have learnt a ton of stuff about getting the 109 on the road. I didn't realise how much Lucas electrics are in fact a force of evil :-)
My landy is pretty much complete just needs a bit of attention.

G'day Gecko :)
Nice 2a,is it a suffix "D" chassis with Neg earth electrics? they like all of Lucas wired vehicles have seperate and individual earths to all lights and instruments, poor or no earths will give all sorts of grief, and earth strap from gearbox to chassis X-member is a must, and also from the bottom stud to the top stud of the lefthand engine mount,it is only a short little heavy cable but it is essential particulary if you are running an alternater there should be a multi earth connector on each end of the rear X-member on the upper surface, these take the earths from the rear lights.
hope that is of help, I have a 68 2a GS negative earth.
cheers

Thanks Uncle Ho,
particularly the tips about those extra earth straps - I don't recall seeing them on my vehicle.
Might have to wait for the weekend tho as my garage isn't heated and we had the coldest day in Canberra all year (about -6)
Regards,
Gecko
