That would have to be pics of Len Beadell's heavily modified landys.
I read that many of the improvements he made to them ended up being incorporated into the standard landys the army bought from that time onwards.
All of his books were really good reads.

The first image in this thread is one of the LRWE-converted 1/4 ton jeeps for arid area surveys.

You can go to the NAA.gov.au and do some commonwealth photo searches, eg
Amberley, Darwin, Snowy, PMG, police, etc

http://photos.naa.gov.au/photo/Default.aspx?id=7654463
http://photos.naa.gov.au/photo/Default.aspx?id=8291352
http://photos.naa.gov.au/photo/Default.aspx?id=11527532

Pressing Control button and the plus (+) button at the same time will usually enlarge the screen (and the photos within it).

This LHD Hardtop CJ3A Jeep was used for Gravity testing (whatever that is) during geological surveys of the region. Innovative mounting of the test apparatus.

I don't think they would've been able to "buff that out" and, in any case, it would continue to glow in the dark....

... at least the tyres look ok  :)

In the early ninties, the British government gave the Australian government 20 million pounds to attend to the cleanup of the atomic test sites around Maralinga.

This Toyota Land Cruiser was used during the decontamination process in 1993. It had a large compressor/filtration unit on the roof to pressurise the interior of the vehicle so that no radioactive dust could enter. You can see the bulkhead within the vehicle that was used to isolate the drivers compartment. Entry and egress from the drivers compartment is through the passenger side hatch as the drivers door has been removed and permanently sealed up.

Thats very Interesting, I would have thought a off the shelf vehicle that had Bio/Nuclear protection would have been a more sensibler option. plenty around on the second hand market too.
