Title: Corowa 2014 - Year of the WW1 & Year of the Ford
Post by: Jan Thompson on November 10, 2013, 06:01:59 PM
Hi all
We will be giving you some updates on the 2014 event over the next few weeks. We had out AGM in August and the Committee is now:
President - Scott Rough
Vice President - Harvey Black
Treasurer - Ben Hemmings
Secretary & Public Relations Officer- Jan Thompson
Committee- Richard Farrant, Robert Pearce & Neville Smith

Official Trips Planned:
Wednesday: Trip to Mulwala area
Thursday: Visit to the Corowa Primary School & proposed trip to Puckapunyal
Friday: Trip to Howlong area

Guest speaker: on Friday evening Keith Webb and we will advise you shortly of the venue.

Parade: We will have an official parade on Saturday morning leaving from Bangerang Park promptly at 9am. We advise participants to commence lining up from 7:30am. We successfully applied to the Corowa RSL for a grant and we will be able to have the streets of Corowa closed off for the parade.

Showgrounds: this year we will have the Showgrounds available from Thursday to Sunday for people with Swap Meet sites only. Last year the final number of participants who used the Showgrounds indicated that this is not a preferred camping area so in 2014 participants who want to camp should be contacting Ball Park Caravan Park (who now have more powered sites), Bindaree Motel and Caravan Park and Rivergum Resort who will reduce their charges for camping and unit accommodation for our participants.

Publicity: Mark Fletcher, known as 'Fletch' from the Channel 44 show 'Classic Restos' will be with us again from Wednesday to Friday. He will be filming on Thursday and we will be looking for people to interview so we get a cross section of vehicles.

Swap Meet: Sites for the Swap Meet will be available from Thursday and at this stage Jan McKenna from the Show Society will be organising the sites. There will be official paperwork available shortly and people will have the choice of undercover and outdoor sites. (In the interim please forward me a message if you are planning to have a Swap Meet Site.)

Saturday evening: We have decided to change out plan for Saturday evening. From 8pm until approximately 9pm we will have presentations and an opportunity for people planning future events to talk to the other participants. This will include a talk by the Corowa RSL on their plans for 2015.

Sunday: There will be an AGM and General Meeting held on Sunday morning. KVE members and participants of the event are welcome to attend.

Sunday evening dinner: The final activity of the event will be a dinner at the Corowa RSL. As they are a major sponsor we hope those who are still in town come along.

Just a reminder to get your entry forms in for 2014.

We were successful once again with a Tourism Grant from the Corowa Shire. We have sent in our order for Caps and stubby holders along with stickers which will be advertising the 2015 event. For an Entry fee of $15 you will receive all the promotional items including a Plaque. (Where do you get such value for money?).

Look at our updated website: www.corowaswim-in.org for the latest newsletter only released last week. There is also an Entry form on there plus a form to complete if you are going to have a swap meet site. For those requiring a site you must book in ASAP especially if requiring one undercover.

Richard emailed out the newsletters this time so if you didn't receive one please send an email to kveinc@optusnet.com.au

I would like to thank those people who completed their entry forms last weekend when I was at Temora. Please remind your friends who may not have access to the internet.

Thought it was about time the KVE president jumped in.

100 years since the start of WW1 and now only 8 weeks until Corowa and planning is well under way,

I lot of work has been done but we are not finished.

We are looking at making the Corowa Swim In a premium military event and invite all facets of military hobby to participate.

If you haven't entered yet click on Richards links and get them in.

This not only helps us organize everything but secures you a goodies bag.

With the Grays online auctions happening over the last year we should see more modern gear this year.

So don't sit on your hands get your forms in ASAP.

It is great to see that we have a few WW1 vehicles already entered.

The next KVE Newsletter will be released in the next week. There is an entry form included and for those wanting to have a Swap Meet stall you will need to contact Jan McKenna and her details and a form are included in the newsletter. If you aren't on my database and would like to be included whether you attend the event or not then send me an email with your name and contact details kveinc@optusnet.com.au

We received a grant from the Corowa Shire and if you preregister by the 28th February you will get more than $15 worth of value. The pack includes a Cap, Stubby Holder, vehicle Plaque, sticker, Special Edition Newsletter and a number of vouchers. Where else can you get such value?

In the past there have been a number of members of this forum who attend but don't preregister. With the work that goes into organising this event please put your hand in your pocket and hand over $15 for your entry.

Mark 'Fletch' Fletcher will be with us for a few days and he will be filming on the Thursday. If you would like your vehicle included send me an email and I will endeavour to have you interviewed on the Thursday.

Hi Everyone

Don't forget PRE- REGISTER! This will secure yourself a goodies bag at Corowa.

Also there is no camping at the airport or the showground (Unless you are having swap stall).

Please take advantage of KVE's work with other parks in Corowa to secure affordable camping.

Call Bindaree or River Gums and say you are her for the Military Event ( Swim In) and they will look after you.

See You Down there Roughie.

It is great to see sometimes up to 8 entries each day either by email or in the post. You have up until the 28th February to get your entries in.

Remember to come along to Keith Webb's talk at the Football Club which is opposite Ball Park Caravan Park on Friday 14th March. The Footy Club will be selling food and drinks from approx. 5pm so there are no excuses for people not to have a feed before listening to the parade briefing at 7:30pm and following this will be Keith's talk. Lets support the local Footy Club.

Corowa is approaching fast and names are still needed for the site office roster. Already some members have put their names into more than one slot and we don't want to spoil the event for them by asking for more of their time. What we need is more people to fill one time slot to spread the work load. So could you please consider volunteering for one of the vacant time slots.
Mon. 10th 1 X 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
Tue. 11th 1 X 3:00 to 6:00 PM

The Site Office to be precise. We are asking for volunteers to look after the Site Office at Ball Park during the opening hours through the week, then Saturday the Site Office relocates to the showground. Tasks are basically booking in participants, selling items, taking membership renewals and entries for next year, etc.

There are still a few gaps in the roster to fill during the week and on Saturday especially.

cheers, Richard

At this stage I'll be there for a few days.

I had a friend have a look at the 101. He's given it a clean bill of health.
"I'd take it up there without hesitation." were his words.
Just got to modify the tow hitch to connect chains for the trailer, change the radiator cap and grease the prop shafts.

By the way, made a flag today.

Well... my daughter drove the machine; I just picked apart the pieces and re-arranged an MOD flag because I'm not at all handy with a sewing machine. Needed a $5 dowel from a hardware store.

Pedr (REMLR 038) had his No 5 in the river and paddled about. Comments - 'Needed a fish finder', 'EPIRB?' , 'perhaps a fishing licence' etc. Easily had the most fun of any entrant for yesterdays activites.

THEN, after sunset, the WW2 searchlight lit up the sky. Incredible! A real time warp. Just needed tracer and air raid sirens... and its gonna be on again every night! I do not have a tripod so getting a good quality photo may be difficult.

In relation to the vehicle list for Corowa, weren't there 2 S Line Inter prime movers?

There were two 101's near the swap meet area that were not in the parade, but was AJ a vendor or a merely a spectator?  He did have items for other 101 owners, but these were pre-arranged deliveries and not for sale at the meet.
