For the purposes of seeing -in one photo- a whole lot of different equipment the 1ALSG had in the yard.

I see Landys on the righthand side behind the tent.

There are 2 AB160 teaspoon tippers behind the tent, 1 has the bonnet half off, or maybe the hinges are seized which was a problem with International trucks of that era.
The D8 dozers are interesting, in the 1980's I sand blasted and painted 2 of them Cat yellow for a customer.We also took the tiny canopies off them and fitted full length scrub canopies. I rebuilt a final drive on one of them, and the rear housing and the fender were both badly scarred with shrapnel damage, at that stage I didn't know they had served in Vietnam and I wondered how it got like that. It is possible that it is the same tractor shown in 17 construction squadron photos having the same final drive rebuilt in Vietnam.
Another interesting thing is that the Australian Army power shift D8's were made in Great Britian and not in the United States ,all the civilian power shift D8s that age I have worked on were made in the U.S.

So much stuff in there. The Accos are interesting too. I think I've spent 10 mins looking at that photo. One of the Accos kas a command post type thing - or is it a RAEME electronic workshop or something?

Yes, the shelter is an airconditioned electronic equipment repair worshop if I recall. we have a few photos, probably of that very unit, about the place.

Re the Cats
I had a Dozer driver who worked for a contractor back in the '74 -'76 era who drove those machines in SVN. I remember he said one was hit by RPG. the other thing he said was the VC used to tie grenades in the trees.
Seem to remember they had a couple for scrub clearing with armoured cab and operator had to climb in over rear guarding.
Drivers were issued wit a side arm as std issue was not practical for the driver while on the machine.
His name was Ron Roberts a dam good operator pushing drill lines in open forest and Brigalow country.

Good day,
I hadn't thought of a RPG ,very interesting. All D8H series are left hand drive, well the seat favours the left hand side of the operator station, as we call them these days. I thought the tractors came from Britain because
A. Australia was still tied to Great Britain in the 1960's and
B. Britain had a very large Caterpillar factory that in its early days concentrated on D8 manufacture.
