Repainting Perentie

Hi
Can someone tell me if you can paint straight over existing faded paint or does it need to be primed or stripped first. Also, although my exterior paint has faded and is somewhat powdery, it seems to be a lighter green to the olive. Is this the case or has it faded to a dull green.

To stop this subject being done to death again the answer is :- It Fades.

Get a bucket of water and some 600 grit wet and dry. Rub it all over with the 600 grit, wet. Clean it up with methylated spirits and spray away. No need to prime unless you sand through to bare metal, but with the number of coats the Perenties have that would take an eternity.

And take particular note on the importance of wet sanding the paint, and use gloves too. The dry dust is a very dangerous carcinogen that you don't want to breathe or get on your skin. Even the wet slurry should be avoided and all consumables disposed in a plastic bag.

Be aware the the paint can either be a 2 Pack Urethane (Factory or base applied) or an Alkyd Enamel (Unit Repair). The Enamel is environmentally friendlier, but only marginally. Depending of the Paint Type on the vehicle, you might have issues applying a different topcoat without a proper tiecoat or primer. Avoid Auto Parts shop Acrylic topcoats.
