Hi Boys,
FFRMAN and I were busy yesterday visiting Bandiana and Corowa in preparation of the YEAR OF THE LAND ROVER 2018.
We visited Corowa Caravan Park in order to recon the facilties and discussed our event with the manager (Karen).
Karen was very helpful and advised us that she is prepared to "cordon off " a large section of the park (inc the river front area) for military vehicle campers only. The area includes a amenties area and will include a Shower and toilet block. There are powered and unpowered sites. prices are $27 powered and $22 unpowered sites. This will change subjet to numbers. She will provide a bulk discount.
The site has good shade, loverly views of the river and located not too far from town.
Those who attended last year will remember how crowded Ball Park was last year and how hot and humid it was out on the oval. This is a big improvement. I`ve included and flier and those wishing to book please mention REMLR.
It would be great to have all the Land Rover lunatic`s in one location.
cheers,
Mick

Hi Mick - Scott - Thinking of a 4 military land rover section travelling from SW Vic - this information you have provided is most opportune. Will be planning route earlyQ1/18. Thanks guys!

Sounds good Mick,
I won't miss Ball park!
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi Scott
I'm open to consider different venues and have not been impressed by Ball Park for years so haven't camped there, however you will be aware that The Booger and I have camped at Bindaree for a number of years since being kicked out of the Airport. REMLR inc have also used the games room at Bindaree for the AG meetings for about 3 years.
From what I can see there is a lot more grass at Corowa than at Bindaree but how does it compare otherwise?
What are other comparisons between Ball Park, Corowa and Bindaree? Any other facilities like catering/shop etc?
Not that there's a consideration of armour next year, but did you ask about heavier vehicles?
What would you see about vehicle numbers/camping capacity and particularly for people who may be bringing multiple Land Rovers?
-
Hi Diana,
Mick and I had a good look at Corowa caravan park and felt it would work quite well.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Corowa+Caravan+Park/@-36.0110348,146.3837722,2056m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x2b8956ca415bdeea!8m2!3d-36.0077027!4d146.381638
They have quarantined off the whole back section against the river for us (Ball park kept mixing caravans with us) the grassed area would be 3 times the usable space of the "oval" at Ball park. there is a camp kitchen in the middle and boat ramp into the river is anyone want to go for a swim. They will also be build brand new amenities building next to "our" camp kitchen.
We estimate enough room for about 50 campers/vehicles, mostly un-powered but there is powered sites included, typically $18/person un-powered, $24 powered, but they are going to work out a group price for us.
Close to town, half way between town and the race course, nice and quiet etc etc. Binderee seem a bit out of the way to me
hope that helps

Thanks for that info Scott, most helpful and yes I had looked at Google Maps and the caravan park website.
Just one more q: is there somewhere for the AGM?
All gives me a decision to make soon.
(although I may miss the sounds of cattle trucks arriving and leaving and the stock in the sale yards all night!)
-
My 2c is that our AGM could/should be in a 11x11 or similar... maybe more members would go for that?
-
Probably a good idea Ross -
(the promise of free beer didn't even get them to the last meeting at the Hotel Australia)
-
I'll have a 14x14 set up. BYO chair.
-
Further to Diana's question , there is further parking behind the office. You could park a 60 tonner in there a squadron of carriers. Management has said those with multiple vehicles are welcome to use this area.
The office also has a small shop typical of any caravan park.
-
Thanks Mick
Was hoping that there may be the possibility if a small charge for additional vehicles next to my actual camp.
The plan is to take Gog (the ex-SADF SIIB) next year to camp in and I'm not sure I'd like to leave the Perentie or SIII FFRs anywhere away from my actual campsite, I've already had radio cables stolen at Corowa Swim-In to the extent that I'm seriously considering enclosing the rear in lockable security mesh before taking them to Corowa again. (It's a sad indictment on some people in our community. >:( )
-
Diana,
The area behind the office would be perfect for your needs.
High colour bond fence, one way in and out and not a area easy to see when entering park.
-
What are the dates for Corowa 2018, I want to see if I can book some time off work.
Thanks
-
12-18 March 2018 :)

Quite a few from AMEC have been staying Corowa Caravan Park for a number of years. The facilities are good and very clean. The new owners are very nice and are keen to make your stay enjoyable.
Our heavy vehicles use that top area for parking as well... but there is heaps of room and AMEC will likely be focused on Landies next year, which will be parked near the cabins we stay in.
It is also pretty good for young families... I think there is a play room and the swimming pool is well kept.
Cheers.

Thanks, much appreciated

G'day Everyone,
I had a phone call from Karen at the Corowa Caravan Park today. The Day On The Green event that clashed with Corowa last year has announced there will be a similar event next year. So accommodation is going to be tight.
Could those planning on using Corowa Caravan Park either book or let me know so we can give Karen a accurate number of users.
It would be great to have a LR concentration to try and get on board.
Good luck with your projects everyone , look forward to seeing you all at Corowa.
Cheers,
Mick

Thanks for the heads up Mick :)

Hi Mick,
Thanks for the alert on the winery event, also on the previous weekend there is the Corowa Rod run which is bi-annual, some of them stay until Monday, so those of you who intend arriving early in the week, should arrange their accommodation now.
As organisers of the Swim-In we alerted participants at the last event that this clash could happen again, and advance booking is the best plan.
best regards,
Richard Farrant

Giddy Mick, you can count me in for Corowa Caravan Park. Is there anything else I need to do?
cheers, Daryl

G'day Daryl,
How you travelling mate?
It's up to you if you want to book the site now or later. Karen would like to know numbers sooner rather than later. I'm just going to give her rough figures from these responses.
I know a few others have already booked.
Cheers mate,
Mick
-
I just rang them and asked about a powered site. Karen is going to call me back.
-
We had cabins there this year (2017) and it wasn't a bad spot, although some of the cabins were quite dated. Down by the river was nice, but I think the minister for finance wants a cabin again so I had better get looking.

Called in today when passing by and took some photos and a vid on my smartphone.
The Corowa Caravan Park grounds are very nice and the amenity building is well underway.
Here are 5 photos of the grassy camping zone taken from a central position near the river access ramp.
....and here is a quick video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWTXFthLJ-g
I looked over the Ball Park lagoon area and it is still a mess but time will fix it I am sure.
The last few months have flown by and it won't be long and it will be time for the 2018 Corowa and the "Year of The Land Rover". I hope everyone's plans and projects are progressing well.
-
looking good. I've got a powered site with my name on it.
-
Hi everyone,
I spoke with Karen at Corowa Caravan Park today and sites are filling up so if your heading to the swim in and looking to stay at the CCP you might want to think about making a booking sooner rather than later.
Good luck with your projects !
Cheers,
Mick

Thanks for the video Ross. Nice looking boat ramp, it should come in handy to launch the LRAV (Long Range Amphibious Vehicle). I am doing a refit on the LRCV Mk 1 for this year's event, balloon tyers and snorkel extension and air mattress as life raft. Should put on a good show.
See you all there.
Cheers

So having never attended one of these events is that the best park to stay at or is the Ball park the closer?
Garry

Ball park is centre of activity untill sat stalls and unoffical swap meet all week but it gets very crowded corowa camp ground is only about 3 min away so its an easy drive or walk other camping grounds are no more than 10 min away at the most.
-
Totally agree with Booger Gary,
We camped on the oval at Ball Park last year, it was so crowded that if you left your site where you had parked your vehicle would be taken up on your return. Too many caravans, and way too crowded.
Cheers,
Mick

Yes ball park very disappointing last year, I've been going for many years and the new owners just didn't get it. Put huge caravans on "the oval" amongst us with army tents and vehicles. Yes Mick you'd come back and someone would have set up camp in your car parking spot.
The new place is keeping the whole back section just for us military guys
Can't wait, not long now!!!!!!
-
Thanks for all the replies
I called up Corowa Caravan Park and she has kept me a spot with the military guys, I look forward to meeting all of you
