As some of you may have seen on the 2A page, I've been looking into remaking some of these labels for my 2A GS.
As far as I know, these are no longer available.
I have a quote from a metal label company that I will go ahead with, this will supply,
All of the Army switch labels, i.e,
MAP LIGHT,
FUEL GAUGE LH TANK RH TANK,
TRAILER FLASHER, &
LH TANK RH TANK.
They will also produce the Low Ratio Warning placard for the bulkhead.
All of the labels will be produced on 1mm aluminium using the photo anodised process, which is the way that they were originally made (I think - I'm not an expert in this field!).
They will be made in the same font, and reverse printed ( black background) for the switch ones, and in the correct 2 colours for the warning sign. They will be the same dimensions as the originals.
I guess that if I need a set of these, then other people will as well, so I'm more than happy to produce as many sets as we all need.
At this stage, I will probably sell them as a full set, so the price will be,
$ 25.30 plus postage to your address.
I'm not making a profit on this, that's not what it's about, but covering my costs.
There are set up fees as well as freight and graphic imaging costs.
Unfortunately, as it will be a small run for the printers, I will not be able to show any proofs, but I'm happy to order them and if they are satisfactory then everyone can pay once we see them.
I'm pretty confident that they will look almost exactly the same as the originals, but 50 years newer.
The printers seem very professional, and have done work for Defence in the past.
So, how many sets do I order?
Let me know via this thread, I've told the printers that I'll get back to them with numbers in a week, so last orders will need to be in by 0900 EDST Monday 23 Feb 15.
Cheers,
Mike.

1 set for me too thanks.

1x set please
-
Thanks for all the interest everyone, we are currently looking at 24 sets which is terrific.
While this job is being set up, does anyone need any other labels of this type, say for an ambulance or FFT?
It would be a good time to get them made, as the printers are only charging a flat rate set up fee for the whole job, rather than for the individual labels.
So if anyone is after anything else, all that I will need is a fairly good photo, and the exact dimensions to use for the artwork.
It's great that there is interest in this, it's what REMLR is all about. Ive got some good help over the years from here, it's nice to be able to put something back.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
What if any other foil stickers are there if not to much trouble the sheet could cover all series rovers?
-
Hi Mike
Can they photi etch aluminium? I would lile to get a new placard done for the transfer case instructions that mounts above the speedo and gauges. This might be something that others might be interested in as they fade like mine has.
Cheers

Yeah good idea, they do go purple after a while
I'll take one
-
hi i will have two gs a one ambo thanks
-
G'day Stephen,
I'm more than happy to get some Ambo labels made up, but I'm not sure what the extra ones look like!
If you could possibly post some clear photos of the Ambo specific switch placards, I'll get some made up.
If anyone else can help, that would be great, unfortunately I don't have access to one in my neck of the woods.
Rod and Scott, as far as replicating the aluminium photo etched stuff, I'll ask them. I'm not sure if it would be the same job, but it would definitely be worth doing anyway.
Cheers,
Mike.

I would like a set, although I think the ambulance has a few extra ones, have to double check.
-
My ambulance gauges look like this
(http://www.remlr.com/photos/pics9/rg109amb_g.jpg)
So a regular sheet is little use to me :(
-
G'Day Richard,
It would be possible to make the Blower and Heater labels if required, and they could be included in the current job if necessary.
Just let me know some dimensions, they look like they are 50mm wide, and 13 mm tall - the same size as the fuel gauge one.
There is no need to order a regular sheet, we could do any number of any label.
Cheers,
Mike.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
I will look at it closely ASAP and let you know Mike.
-
Thanks for that Richard,
We have made up the artwork for these if you need them, just need you to check the dimensions so that we get them right!

A Bit of a update / change
Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest in this project.
The printers sent me some samples yesterday, and it looks like I was a bit wrong about the way they make the labels.
As we know, the originals from the 60's were printed onto thin foil with an adhesive backing.
Apparently, this company photo etches onto aluminium plate, and the minimum thickness is 0.5mm. Adding the adhesive backing would make them up to about just under 1mm thickness.
Obviously this is not quite the same as the original, but they will definitely look exactly the same, just a bit thicker.
They will certainly be a lot more hard wearing, and the samples look quite good.
I would like to show everyone what they will look like, but as this is a fairly small job for the printers, they are unable to produce an exact sample of the job prior to the go ahead.
The other thing is that they will be able to make up any other plates we need.
At the moment we are making up artwork for the big instruction plate that goes over the instruments, the 'Plate recording vehicle repair', (that they had when accepted - I've never seen an unfaded one of these) and the Black Out label.
So is the change from a foil sticker to an alumimium label an issue?
I did talk to a couple of businesses that make 'foil stickers' but was told "That will cost you 1000's of dollars". I suspect that they were not interested!
Let me know if this is an issue, if you have changed your mind, no worries.
I am still going ahead at this stage with the labels for my vehicles.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Mike, that's awesome news for me.
The labels on the switch panel in my Inter are badly damaged and I could use a couple of Mod plates as well. It sounds like the labels these guys make would be very similar to the originally fitted ones.
If others would find it useful, I could take some detailed pics of the switch labels, mod plates and other warning & instruction plates from my MK3 and post them up with measurements.
Greg.
-
Greg,
All we need is a good photo and some accurate measurements, and we can go from there.
I didn't think of the Truck plates, but it should not be a problem.
I've seen some of the switch labels on the inters and I know what you mean.
As far as the printers go, they will do all of the labels as one job, including cutting them out.
The bigger labels will cost a bit more, but then again, where else can we get them?
This little project is getting bigger!
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Hi Mike,
The blackout switch panel in my series 3 has been drilled through twice - right through switch labels!
Does anybody know if the series 3 markings are the same as the series 2a? Making the aluminium panel will be simple, but i was wondering what to do about the labels.
Sorry i dont have a pic of the series 3 panel at the moment. I would be very keen if they could be replicated.
Regards,
Tim
-
No issue for me.As they will be thicker,I have less chance of stuffing up,so if its no hassles I will only get 1 set(71 WKSP).Thanks again for your efforts.Cheers Hallsy.
-
Sounds alright to me.
Cheers
Rod
-
Ok by me too.
-
Two set for me please.
John
-
Righto,
I'm going to put in the order on Monday.
At at this stage, to get the ball rolling, we will start with the 2A GS ones.
Remember that these will be on 0.5mm aluminium plate, instead of the original foil, so slightly thicker.
This 2A GS set will be:
the Low Range warning placard, The TRAILER FLASHER, FUEL GAUGE LH TANK RH TANK, LH TANK RH TANK (for the fuel changeover tap) and the MAP LIGHT placard.
5 labels in total. Cost for the set will be $25.30 plus postage.
Here's a list of who we have so far,
John H x 1
FFRMAN x 1
kman x 1
cookey x 10
AGAS5 x 2
juddy x 2
Mick x 2
Hot Rover x 1
Carzee x 1
greg egretz x 1
stephendavis x 2
jcm68 x 2
South65pac x 4
For phoenix and stephendavis, I'm happy to get some of the ON BLOWER OFF and ON HEATER OFF placards made up, if I can just confirm the measurements.
Please let me know by Monday if you can.
So a total of 31 sets, thanks for everyone's interest.
As far as placards / labels for the Inters, Series 3 Mod plates or anything else, a good photo and some accurate dimensions is all we need to make up the art work for the printers.
So, the next batch will include all the other bits and pieces, as well as some Blackout labels and the Transfer case placard for the 2As.
If anyone else wants to go on the list, let me know before Monday.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Thaks Mike-k for your efforts.Pls let me know how to pay.Drinks are on me when we eventually meet.Cheers.
-
You missed me :-[ Please add one set.
Oops, no you didn't - forgot my user name :( Sorry
Thanks, Howard
-
Thanks for putting in the time, How can we pay you?
Cheers
Justin
-
will you be at corowa?
-
Mike
Put me down for 3 sets please
Steelo
-
No worries Steelo, you're on the list.
Stephen, unfortunately I can't make it to Corowa this year due to work. By the way, are you happy with the ambo labels that Phoenix posted, or does your vehicle have different ones?
As far as paying for these, I hadn't really thought that far ahead. I guess a bank transfer would be the best way, I do have a paypal account but that would mean paypal fees as well.
I'm happy to wait until they are made, (no one has seen the finished product yet) and we can sort that all out then with postage /addresses etc.
I suppose when they arrive, we can use the personal message system here for all of that.
If there is anyone else, let me know before tomorrow morning.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
My ambulance is a Series 2 Ambulance, not sure if the 2A had a different one. I am fairly sure I still have the blower label still, but the thickness does not worry me.
However if I don't need to order now, I won't. Life is kinda hectic right now. Might ease off if we can sell the shop.
-
Well they have finally arrived.
We are very happy with how they look, hopefully everyone else will agree.
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk135/pinegrove_photo/image.jpg2_3.jpg) (http://s279.photobucket.com/user/pinegrove_photo/media/image.jpg2_3.jpg.html)
And the Ambo ones,
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk135/pinegrove_photo/image.jpg1_5.jpg) (http://s279.photobucket.com/user/pinegrove_photo/media/image.jpg1_5.jpg.html)
I have everyone's order, so If you could send me a PM with your address info, I'll reply with the bank account info, and we can go from there.
If that is okay with the mods. of course.
I did get charged GST on these, which I didn't see coming (!), so the final price per set of 5 labels is $27.83.
The Ambo labels are $3.30 each, for anyone who needs them. Hopefully these are also correct for the 2A Ambulance, as they are copies from phoenix's Series 2.
They will go into a postage paid envelope, for a flat rate to anywhere in Australia, and I'll register them as well, so postage will be $5.50, to everyone.
I'm really looking forward to putting these onto 178 193, will be looking good for Anzac day.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
hi did you get a chance to make the tappet cover clearance plate
(http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/igrec1/TappetPlate247634.jpg) (http://s1158.photobucket.com/user/igrec1/media/TappetPlate247634.jpg.html)
-
G'Day Greg,
We have not yet made this one.
We were concentrating on the GS ones for the first run.
I'll include it in the next batch of stuff.
At the moment, we propose to make the big instruction plate that goes on top of the instruments, the 'Plate Recording Vehicle Repair', some Nomenclature plates and anything else that anyone is interested in.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
ok thanks, could you maybe think about of making the fuse box plate that sit behind the fuse box in the engine bay, this is all going on my son SWB survey, he defiantly missing the fuse box plate and pm sent

No worries Greg, the fuse box plate is now on the list.

Mike
They arrived and were installed yesterday. Whoever made them did a beautiful job and many thanks to you for organising them - they really finish off the restoration!
You can certainly count me in if you get the instruction that mounts above the instrument panel.
By the way, the label that was above the fuel tap was missing from my series 2a: presumably it is installed so it can be read when you look straight at it? i.e. not so you read it by bending over which would have it upside down?
Howard
-
G'Day Howard,
Glad they got to you safely.
The main credit goes to my daughter, who spent a long time carefully setting them out, so that the artwork was perfect (or as close as we could get) before we got them made up.
You are right about the Fuel tank changeover tap placard, they are almost always missing.
I have the remains of one on 178 193, and it is mounted "upside down", above the tap. So, when you look down at it as you sit in the drivers seat, it reads correctly - so it then looks the right way up. I hope that makes sense, a bit hard to explain!
I've almost sent them all out to everyone now, a few bank transfers are yet to come in.
I'll let everyone know what the next lot of placards will have in it, I will get a quote for the transfer instruction placard, as it is fairly big compared to the stickers.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Mike
Did my transfer come through?
Regards
Scott
-
It did Scott, thanks for that.
Yours were in yesterday's mail, hopefully you should see them on Monday.
Has anyone got any photos of the placards installed yet?

Looking very good Ron,
Your vehicle is very impressive, all to aircraft standards!
Great to see the placards fitted, I'm aiming to have a go at the other aluminium etched ones in July.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Hi Mike did you ever get these labels done?
Thanks
Sam
-
G'day Sam,
Yes, all of the Land Rover ones have been completed.
I do have some left, send me a pm if you are chasing any.
Unfortunately, the photos have fallen victim to the photobucket scam, I will have to update them!
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Sold my S2A the other day. When pointing out all the features to the new owner noticed for the first time the error in the instructions for engaging/disengaging 4WD.
Howard

Just a quick update here, we have run another batch of placards for the Series Vehicles.
We can now supply the PMC build plates and the switch labels for late 2As (1968 - 1971). These are photo etched and laser cut in aluminium, a practical replacement for the original plastic ones.
Also we produced the Air cleaner and Engine breather decals, for either black or silver as required. These are reproduced in temperature / chemical resistant vinyl, so should stand up well in the engine bay.
And a few other ones as well, as requested.
Let me know if you are after any, we still have all the standard placards available as well.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
The engine bay decals….
-
And some recent orders…
-
And an overseas order, off to the UK.
-
Hi Mike.
Are the Warning Placard and switch labels for series 2a still available?
Regards
Landieman.
-
Really nice work Mike, most impressive!
Cheers Charlie
-
Hi Mike.
Are the Warning Placard and switch labels for series 2a still available?
Regards
Landieman.
Yes they are Landieman.
If you like, send me a pm and we can sort something out.
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Thanks Charlie,
I have been wanting some better switch tags for my late 2A vehicles, so it was great to get them done. The originals are on some kind of plastic with screen printed text, and they fade badly over the years. Very impressed with the printer, these ones have been laser cut to get the shape as correct as possible. Hopefully other late 2As can use them as well!
With the breather decals, we decided to get these done for selfish reasons again, you can get them from the UK, but we thought we could reproduce them a bit more accurately. Hopefully they will stand up to the engine bay environment, as they are laminated on high quality vinyl.
Appreciate your kind words,
Cheers,
Mike.
-
Hi Mike.
I received my Warning Placard and Switch Labels yesterday, and have to say that I am extremely happy with the quality of the product.
I would not hesitate to recommend these labels to fellow members.
Thank you for the opportunity to replace these items.
Regards.
Landieman.
-
Thanks Landieman,
This is why we ran the project to remake these.
Thanks for your kind words, keep us updated with your restoration.
Cheers,
Mike.
