Found this trawling the web
-
There's a YouTube video of one of these testing the guns
-
OOOoooohh. that's something those blokes really need hey. Like replacing a Trail Bike with an Aircraft Carrier. wooohoooo.
-
Bit of a upgrade from a 4x4 to 6x6 !
-
They're very capable, but will need to be driven very differently to the current RFSVs ;-)
-
So is that a reduction in fleet numbers 240 of the land rovers 200 of these?
How many per unit 65 is a equal split seems a lot

A lot bigger, and a lot taller, would make it more difficult in close bushy conditions I would have thought, and a much taller profile, I would have thought that would be an issue as well. less shine without the window glass, but on a long haul i'm not sure if it would be of benefit or hinderence in comfort stakes (depends on speeds traveled I guess).
A very interesting comparison, thanks for the photos Sixty!
-
Excellent Pictures, Thanks for :)...
-
Thanks sixty. So you are now a Delta Dog by association? A little rain changes that country, eh?
:o What a behemoth.
My thoughts:
a larger, less manouverable vehicle with tyres that are harder to change= a pain to repair aaalll those flats
A larger more capable cross country vehicle that has to be left further away from the target to avoid discovery and takes more effort and nets to cache= can go further but they will need to walk further.
6x6= 6x6 tracks- no blending in with the traffic sign-wise.
I would have thought 1-6x6 /Pl as a mother ship and 2x 4x4s /Ptl.
Quick Q: did it restart after the water crossing stop/start process?
-
Dave,
SRV start and drove out easily. Trouble is if you turn the veh off all the centre/axle locks disengage.....you need to re-engage the switches and gently drive to re-engage the driveline.... The exhaust has an S bend to hopefully prevent water ingress...
Standard fording depth is the height of the lower edge of the 'doors'.
Rims are 16x8 one piece alloys with 'off the shelf' 285/75x16 BFG allterrains....def different to steel splits with rag tyres. Will be better for hwy and dirt roads, but scrub work will destroy tyres unless they're very careful.
(MTRs may be replacing the BFGs)
and an idea of what they look like with a w/screen and doors (cab canopy removed)

Snice. Want one as a camperwagon.... 8) 8) 8)
-
some mental meanderings.
conservative estimates:
2 veh x 3Ptl x 4Pl x4 Coy/ Sqn/ 3 Units= 288 vehicles. Only 200 WMIK kits being made, looks like somebody's walkin'
Whilst we often wished for gun mounts (and guns) it is interesting to see such a large budget to increase the defensive capabilities of the RFSUs.
Cheers, Dave.

G's are one for one replacement ;-)

So is the windscreen a option? or will it never have one?
-
Juddy, it only took us 5 minutes to cut our Perentie cabs down including folding windscreens.
Add 10 minutes to remove the G screens and another 10 to fit the gun mount bars and wire protection/ brace bar.
I don't like how the Arnie speck 'ROPS'is only bolted to the storage boxes.
Sixty, please tell me there is a decent sub-frame?
-
I think it would have been a very sad day for land rover when the army got Mercedes to supply all their vehicles.
-
W/screen, canopy and canvas doors come standard. As pictured is the 'operational'(?) setup.
ROPS is mounted to module, is mounted to chassis, etc. ROPS is removable for air transport.
-
The ROPS is too high to fit in what Aircraft?
-
Thanks Al. On balance, still a much improved setup than the RFSV.
Remove ROPS for Air?
That adds an interesting element to the insertion phase.
-

C130
-
That was great planning then....
-
That was great planning then....
Umm....yes.
Tyres, suspension, chassis are not able to be changed. The module is mounted as close to chassis as possible. The rear pax seat is as low as it can be and the ROPS is as low as it can be, taking into account passenger head clearance and ease of entry/egress. ;)

They were invited to the party but they didn't want to come :'(

Pilbarra gets G SRV.
"The regiment expects to receive up to nine new G Wagons"
Wait what??
Pilbarra hopes to put 4 VM patrols on the ground at any one time?! Lofty ideals :P
-
i'm not biting ........
-
come on mate, it'll eat you up if you don't :P ;)
-
Its got Air Con? In a canvas vehicle makes sense, so will they never have the roof off?
-
I wounder what they would be like in the rough stuff being 6x6.. :P
-
Is the winch electric or PTO? Looks electric.

Hmm, new trucks and a brace of new OBMs heading their way as well!
-
Might be interesting to add up all the space used by the spare (fat) tyres.

Why..?? They're soft fat radials....easily punctured on the terrain they traverse...they're gunna need plenty!
