« on: May 03, 2018, 07:58:55 PM »
Few questions regarding these awesome trailers

Anyone know what these are going for approximately? I have seen
Them for about 6k is this a fair price?

How many were made for the army? as they hardly ever come available for sale

Build quality and strenth of these trailers in your opinion? They look very well made
And to last a lifetime

And any other info your happy to share

Thanks in advance

My good one cost me $2,800.
The one I have converted to a camper cost me $1,200 (from the auctions).
In my opinion, they are worth around $3,000 depending on condition. If it was in good unmodified condition, I'd consider paying $4,000. If it needed a fair bit of work, well, some bits can be costly. For example, the hitch is about $250. Then you will need to pay an engineering company to modify it for the brake connection bracket.

I just swapped mine in good condition with new canopy for an Australian Army Jeep trailer sand blasted and primed with good canopy so that valued it about $2750 plus whatever I should allow for the low availability of the Jeep trailer.

How many were made for the army?
On this question, the records (apart from what is in the ARN lists) have been lost. I'm not even sure the ARN lists are complete. I think there would be more out there than what is listed on the REMLR site.
I doubt there are any remaining in service. I would expect they would have all been disposed of by now.

Build quality, to me, is excellent. Yes, very well made. The tub is made of a material that is quite thinner than what you would expect. It isn't made of chequer plate. I think it is made from something like 1.2mm gal sheet.
Also, with how few were made and how many were disposed of in such good condition (I reckon one of mine was unused), I suspect they may have been a bit of a failure in service. Their suspension system was so much more complicated than the Haulmark. You've got to remember, it is still just a box trailer.

No.4 or some other type of Jeep trailer?

Don't know - all I know is that it is an Australian Army one so has the square mudguards rather than the rounded one which suits me as I wish to use it with my M151 MUTT. The MUTT trailers look pretty much identical.

That would be a No.4, then. There should be a cast plate on the back. It's about 3" x 1-1/2". It will state it is a No.4, who made it (i.e. GMH) and a serial number.
Yep, the must have accessory for any ex-army GPW (or MUTT) owner.

That would be a No.4, then.
The No3 and 3A also had squared guards, too.

There was a write-up on the Old MLU site with pics and dimensions of the "Trailer, 2 wheeled (Aust)" No1, No2, No3, No3A , No4 and (our favourite) the No5. Sadly, all the pics and info was lost when the site changed over to ".net" I don't think there is a comparable reference anywhere else online.
